About Our Opportunity

The Business Development Executive will be responsible for identifying, developing, managing, and evaluating business development opportunities that build economic, social, and environmental value to the Province arising from the development of Nova Scotia\'s onshore and offshore energy resources.

Primary Accountabilities

Reporting to the Manager, Business Investment and Export Development, the Business Development Executive will identify, develop, and implement strategies for direct and indirect business development, identify potential investment attraction opportunities, and devise methods for attracting investment to the Province from external markets, including international ones that align the province\xe2\x80\x99s energy sector capabilities and capacity with industry demand on an internationally competitive basis to ensure Nova Scotia can compete effectively on major onshore and offshore energy projects locally, nationally, and internationally. The Business Development Executive is responsible for remaining aware of current trends in energy research, development, and commercialization (RD&C), as well as market trends in technology applications. S/he is expected to build a network of private and public sector contacts and be familiar with various RD&C support programs available through private and public sector sources, and recommend appropriate leveraged investment opportunities.

The Business Development Executive will work with federal and provincial export teams to evaluate new or existing market opportunities to showcase Nova Scotia service and supply chain capabilities. They are also responsible for building relationships between the Department, industry associations, and community groups to optimize local service and supply chain opportunities. The Officer will also work with other Departments, Crown Corporations, and key entities to address challenges with training, education, and certifications to support the transition to a cleaner, greener, economy through government targets and to support major energy developments.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate will have a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business economics, engineering or equivalently relevant field, plus eight years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience; or a relevant masters degree plus six years\xe2\x80\x99 related experience. A technical background combined with relevant business development experience is a definite asset.

Demonstrated business and community development skills especially in the areas of identifying technical, financial, economic, social, and environmental opportunities to address energy needs and solutions. Experience working with business owners/executives, senior government managers, and elected officials from all three levels of government. Must be able to develop and give presentations to both industry and the general public. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as organization, a high level of judgment and diplomacy skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are required. Must be computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams with minimal day-to-day supervision. Previous knowledge and experience in one or more industrial/business settings related to aspects of the energy sector, including renewables, sustainability, and efficiency is required. Knowledge of Nova Scotia\xe2\x80\x99s energy landscape, including offshore wind and green hydrogen is an asset. Working knowledge of the various levels of government and the local business community and industry associations related to the energy sector is an asset.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $3,091.70 - $3,631.17 Bi-Weekly
