Position Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented

Business Development Associate

to support the development, licensing and commercialization of medical device innovations. The portfolio includes but is not limited to, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health tools, surgical and interventional tools, therapeutic delivery systems and biomechanical technologies. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong foundation in engineering and a keen interest in translating medical technologies into market-ready solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with senior business development (BD) staff, researchers, and external partners to identify, evaluate, and advance licensing opportunities for medical devices.




Here's what you'll get to do



Assess medical device innovations for technical performance, unmet clinical needs and commercial potential. Lead invention disclosure review and assessment processes. Refine development and de-risking approaches for individual technologies. Support intellectual property (IP) protection efforts and contribute to developing licensing, start-up formation and industry partnership strategies. Help prepare marketing materials and due diligence packages for potential partners. Conduct preliminary market research, competitive analysis and valuation. Help prepare pitch decks, business cases and grant applications with a focus on commercialization. Maintain records in tech transfer database and prepare reports. Coordinate with legal and IP teams to support agreement drafting and negotiation. Track and manage marketing, licensing activities and related documentation. Liaise with inventors, researchers, clinicians, and engineers to gather technical and commercial insights and data. Support outreach to industry partners and maintain CRM records. Participate in meetings with industry partners, investors and collaborators. Participate in innovation workshops, seminars and networking events. Work with finance, legal, and compliance teams to ensure alignment with institutional policies. Collaborate with senior BD staff to support strategic initiatives and reporting. Attend and contribute to weekly IP&C team meetings.

Here's what you'll need



Essential Requirements



Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field is required Minimum 1-2 years of experience in technology commercialization, product development, licensing, consulting or start-up environments (internships and co-op placements considered). Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Interest in innovation, entrepreneurship, and healthcare technologies. Understand importance and demonstrates ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Preferred Requirements



MSc or PhD or MBA Familiarity with medical device development and regulatory pathways. Exposure to IP management and licensing processes. Exposure to clinical validation or user-centered design. Experience with pediatric or hospital-based technologies.
