Currently we are searching for a Business Development Associate - M&A to help grow target software technology verticals for potential M&A activities.

Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Business Development Associate - M&A to source and manage acquisition opportunities from inception to completion. Reporting to the Group Leader, this pivotal role encompasses lead generation, valuation, negotiation, due diligence, and securing investment approvals, contributing to the execution of our global capital deployment strategy.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior management to identify, qualify, and execute acquisitions aligned with strategic goals. This includes nurturing relationships with prospects and intermediaries through various channels.
This role is ideal for individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset, high integrity, exceptional communication and analytical skills who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. The position offers the opportunity to take initiative and lead significant responsibilities in a hybrid, full-time capacity, based in Toronto.
The ideal candidate possesses at least 3 years of relevant M&A experience, including expertise in financial modeling, due diligence, negotiation, and investment approval, with background in software companies, private equity, or B2B startups considered an advantage.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development
• Identify vertical market software businesses aligned with strategic metrics and maintain a robust proprietary database.
• Build and nurture long-term relationships with business owners, shareholders, and intermediaries through meaningful dialogues.
• Lead prospecting campaigns using LinkedIn, email, calls, trade shows, and in-person meetings.
• Progress opportunities through the pipeline in collaboration with the M&A business development team.
M&A Execution
• Gather, analyze, and present target company financial information. Prepare internal investment presentations and reports.
• Manage acquisition transactions from initial evaluation through to integration
• Responsible for financial modeling, due diligence, negotiation, investment approval and post-close monitoring for multiple M&A transactions per year
• Work in collaboration with other M&A professionals and cross functional experts (IT, technology, HR, Legal, Finance) on each transaction through due diligence to integration phase
QUALIFICATIONS
• 3+ years of experience in M&A with expertise in transaction execution, including financial modeling, valuation, due diligence, and negotiation
• 3+ years of experience in business/corporate development, investment banking at a boutique firm, PE firm or B2B start up
• Bachelors degree or equivalent, in Business, Accounting, Economics, or related field is preferred but not required.
• Strong understanding of accounting, tax, and legal considerations for M&A.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey concepts concisely and defend recommendations to executive leadership.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
• Adaptable and flexible, with an ability to respond to changing work priorities, pressure and demands
• Ability to travel (10-25% of the time)
