Join our Group Benefits (GB) Architecture Team!

Reporting to our Lead Architect & Head of GB Architecture, the Business Architect is responsible for enabling the functioning, mentorship and planning for various Business Capability inputs, outputs, and measures.

You will provide direct input into the governance cycle that supports the achievement of key goals, planning and execution of various business scenarios, and delivery of bottom-line business value.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop the long-term roadmap of initiatives with business rationale for each initiative (cost/benefit, strategic alignment, etc.).
  • Continually improve capability expertise by staying abreast of industry trends.
  • Collaborate with various business partners like GB IT, Business Operations, and Product Owners for regular inquiries, feedback, and changes.
  • Perform analysis of current state and future possibilities, documenting major architecture decisions.
  • Help develop portfolio dashboard and capability success metrics, for overall efficiency of capabilities assigned.
  • Use innovative thinking and identify impacts of an initiative on all user groups; resolve needs, requirements, priorities and help refine solutions.
  • Build the business case by collaborating with partners defining project benefits measures and effort estimates to achieve benefit results/objectives.
  • Ensure traceability of requirements/user stories to the business solution and benefits realization throughout an initiative.
  • Reduce costs and build capacity by identifying gaps and applying analysis methodologies to implement improvements with processes, data and technology.
  • Contribute to personal and team development of skills and capability through training and mentorship of junior members of the team.

Communication:
  • Communicate appropriately with all levels of the organization.
  • Document work on initiatives including problem statements, scope, use cases and requirements, current state, future state, major architecture decisions, etc.
  • Understanding of product ownership practices across the product life cycle.
  • Strong leadership and influence skills to effectively lead collaborators towards a common goal.
  • Good judgment understanding what issues to call out, what to resolve, and providing creative and strategic recommendations.
  • Self-starter with ability to take initiative and work independently with outstanding attention to detail.
Business Architecture:
  • Background in group benefits and insurance is a major asset.
  • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes, and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance.
  • Strong business analysis competence and experience in delivering with excellence (e.g., driving business requirements, coordinating partner activities, establishing, and adhering to budgets and timelines).
  • Recognize structural issues within the organization, functional interdependencies, and cross-silo redundancies.
  • Assimilate and correlate disconnected documentation and drawings and articulate their collective relevance to the organization and to high-priority business issues.
  • Experience using model-based representations; to collect, aggregate or disaggregate complex and conflicting information about the business.
  • The ability to visualize and build artifacts and models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the Business Architecture.
  • Experience planning and deploying both business and IT initiatives.
  • Experience working with legacy and modern tech stacks, including Azure Cloud.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A degree in business management, marketing, finance, or technology plus; background in information technology (or minimum accumulated career experience of 7 years+ in progressing strategy roles in business and technology domains).
  • Certification from recognized professional bodies such as the International Institute of Business Analysis (CBAP, CBDA, AAC) or Business Architecture Guild (CBA) is preferred.
  • Background and familiarity with Agile and Lean methodologies (i.e., SAFe and/or Lean Six Sigma).
  • TOGAF certification is an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office, analytical tools and techniques and project and risk management methodologies.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Waterloo, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $89,950.00 CAD - $167,050.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
