Business Analyst, Student Information SystemsStudent Information Systems works with staff throughout the university to ensure accurate student data and efficient processes. The work involves thoughtfully connecting people and technology, is challenging and ever-changing, and requires innovative thinking and clear communication.Primary Purpose: To help administrative and academic units define business and application requirements for the university's primary student information systems, as well as identify and realize process efficiencies.Nature of Work: Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Student Information Systems, this position works in a highly collaborative team environment. The successful candidate will need very strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge and understanding of the student information systems and relevant business processes within administrative and academic units.Typical Duties or Accountabilities

• Seeks to understand how the activities of the SIS department affect, and are affected by, the university as a whole.

• Helps identify, record, and maintain the business requirements to be met by the student information systems; helps to assess their costs, effort, risk, and impacts.

• Participates in short and medium-term planning of the work required to support the university's business.

• Supports the development of colleagues' skills and training, particularly in business analysis, process re-engineering, and quality assurance.

• Seeks to understand the work done by colleagues and the challenges they experience.

• Facilitates the creation of teams, helping to ensure they understand expected outcomes and can work effectively to achieve them.

• Celebrates and communicates successes.

• Helps to set the context for learning from errors.

• Helps the team complete critical work by identifying activities and individuals that are at risk and suggesting ways to mitigate those risks.

• Understands and documents business requirements and processes and models them within the student information systems.

• Takes responsibility for the reliability, integrity, and security of supported applications and data.

• Meets deadlines and follows defined priorities.

• Investigates and resolves problems in the student information systems.

• Develops and documents test plans.

• Facilitates the implementation of policy and process changes.

• As needed, plans and oversees small and medium projects.

• Works with external consultants.

• Serves as liaison with academic and administrative units.

• Works in conjunction with other project teams as required during configuration, implementation and support efforts.

Education: A bachelor's degree in a related discipline. Formal requirements analysis and process improvement training. Project management training would be an asset.Experience: A minimum of five years of related work experience, preferably in higher education. Recent work experience related to analysis for enterprise-wide applications (ERPs). Experience implementing and supporting large enterprise data and application products. Experience in team-building among people from information technology, academic, or administrative backgrounds. Experience with Ellucian's Banner Student, Degree Works and Recruit products, as well as Crystal Reports. Experience providing advice to senior business unit, project, and information technology leaders would be an asset.Skills: Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills. Ability to present complex material in a manner friendly to non-technical users. Ability to acquire new skills quickly. Enthusiasm for new challenges and the ability to share that enthusiasm with others. Effective organization skills. A strong understanding of how IT applications can effectively support administrative and academic processes. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and work to deadlines. Ability to apply formal IT training to define application and data requirements and implement those requirements. Detailed knowledge of student-related processes within a post-secondary setting. The ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions. Change management and process re-engineering skills. An understanding of the roles of administrative staff, faculty, and students in storing and accessing student information would be a strong asset.
