Job Description

Our client is looking for a Business Analyst - SAP Financial Close and Reporting for a 6-month contract position in Calgary, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Hybrid work schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home. This is NOT a remote role.

Description:

SAP Financial Close and Reporting has a challenging opportunity available for a Business Analyst who has superior analytical and business problem solving skills. The SAP Financial Close and Reporting group has responsibility for finance master data (FMD) support; month-end close support, financial report development and support as well as finance data related SAP issue resolution support to finance stakeholders. Delivering information that business areas deem necessary to make good business decisions; promoting SAP as an enabler of business process change; and implementing business solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Helping customers with SAP issues by finding resolution in a timely manner:
  • Provide a high level of customer service
  • Documenting and tracking of issues in ServiceNow
  • Finance Master Data (FMD) Administration, Analysis and Support
  • Maintain (or facilitate the maintenance of) all SAP FMD, such as, cost centers, cost elements, Joint Venture master data, general ledger accounts, hierarchies, legal entities, profit centers, sets etc. in multiple SAP systems
  • Master Data and Enterprise Structure Management in Group Reporting.
  • Review, register, research and resolve support requests and inquiries for all critical FMD components
  • Contribute to the maintenance and analysis of essential relationships between various FMD components, including company code, cost element, valuation area, chart of account, cost center, profit center etc.
  • Query and analyze critical FMD tables in order to investigate and resolve data quality issues and to validate the accuracy and completeness of the team's FMD maintenance activities.
  • Conduct FMD business risk analysis by evaluating proposed FMD changes and determining the potential impact and consequences of requested changes on key business processes and stakeholders.
  • Promptly exercise independent judgment and critical thinking to decide how and when to respond to or escalate a crisis wherein an FMD issue negatively impact the business.
  • Review and interpret substitution maintenance rules and validation maintenance rules to assist in resolving issues involving FMD.
  • Provide FMD subject matter expertise in support of all business process changes, and all SAP system transformation, migration, implementation and optimization projects.
  • Blackline Administration and Support
  • Critical Month-end Close Support
  • Consistently execute a series of detailed, written instructions to perform time-sensitive, critical month-end close tasks in SAP:
  • Open and close posting periods for the general ledger (and any other ledgers) for selected company codes.
  • Open and close material master records periods.
  • Open and close the actual activity allocation periods in the controlling module.
  • Maintain the Activity Allocations
  • Complete SAP ECC to SAP BW Reconciliations.
  • Review and correct the errors in the daily CATS, Settlement and Allocation jobs
  • Execute all the Joint Venture Month-end processes
  • Execute and Upload the Joint Venture Billings into Energylink
  • Continuously strive to improve the accuracy, completeness, timeliness and quality of the month-end close process.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable security and internal control guidelines.
  • Monthly load of SAP Balances into Blackline Application
  • Supporting the Financial Accounting Group with month end duties
  • Some night shifts are required in this position (5pm to 5am)
  • All other duties as Required
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Business Administration, Accounting or Finance) or Computer Information Systems or equivalent education and experience
  • Above average analytical skills: In order to secure relevant information/data and identify key issues and relationships to determine appropriate course of action
  • Advanced proficiency in managing SAP Financial Master Data and querying related backend tables
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and a positive attitude
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Exceptional skills in effectively managing multiple tasks: often under pressure and within rigid time constraints
  • Experience with SAP Business Warehouse (BW/BOBJ), SAP BPC and Winshuttle (or similar upload tools)
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years working experience with SAP preferably in the Canadian petroleum industry
  • Previous experience in systems analysis and/or business process improvement
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment: Dealing with people from various disciplines to achieve goals, and to identify and resolve problems
