Position Description
The Business Analyst (Level I) contributes to the collection and analysis of clients' business requirements and the development and implementation of pension administration systems. The Business Analyst works closely with clients and JEA Solution Analysts to gather, analyze and document functional requirements; and collaborates with architects, developers and testers to design, test and implement technology solutions.
Key Responsibilities Include
As a member of a project team:
a. Provides assistance to other Business and Solution Analysts and carries out a variety of consultations, information gathering, research and analytical activities.
b. Participates in a variety of forums (e.g. meetings, teleconferences, demonstrations, walk-throughs, etc.).
c. Contributes to the identification of gaps between clients' current and desired functionality.
d. Develops an understanding of clients' operational requirements.
e. Defines business requirements and contributes to the preparation of recommendations for process improvements/new functionality.
f. Supports project team members in the provision of information to clients regarding proposed solutions and responds to feedback. Contributes to a variety of related activities (e.g. client demonstrations, training, post-implementation reviews, etc.).
Contributes to the development of client solutions:
a. Collaborates with Architects, Solution Analysts, Developers, and Testers to identify and fine-tune technology solutions.
b. Provides business focused support during various phases of technology solution development, including quality assurance and client acceptance testing, etc.
c. Contributes to project teams, providing business analysis expertise and carrying out tasks that contribute to the timely completion of project objectives and reporting.
Contributes to the development of client solutions:
a. Collaborates with architects, developers, and testers to identify and fine-tune technology solutions.
b. Participates in the development and implementation of client change management strategies.
c. Provides business focused support during various phases of technology solution development, including quality assurance and client acceptance testing, etc.
Collaborates with other Business and System Analysts and contributes to the development and implementation of improvements regarding all aspects of the company's business analysis policies, procedures and best practices.
Supports the preparation/delivery of a variety of presentations and documents (e.g. system documentation; reports; recommendations; etc.).
Applies industry-wide best practices in business analysis and maintains knowledge and abilities in the field.
Contributes to the positive corporate culture within the company, and the reputation of the company within the community, sector, and industry.
Performs other related duties, within the context of the role.
Job requirements
Degree or diploma in business administration and/or an IT discipline, preferred.
Pension Plan Administration (PPAC) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation, preferred.
Recent (within the past 3 years), related, experience:
Must have 2 years of experience as a business analyst, working closely with clients to identify operational requirements and developing documentation to guide the configuration and development of technology solutions.
Experience in pension plan administration, required.
Experience in pension system development, preferred.
Other requirements
Must be eligible to work in Canada.
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance as a condition of employment.
Must be willing to work outside normal work schedule on occasion, where needed to achieve deadlines
Must be willing and able to commit to and meet deadlines.
Frequent travel is a requirement for many projects.
Knowledge of:
Employer-sponsored pension plans.
All aspects of business operational analysis including industry standards and best practices.
The software development life cycle, including Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
Project management fundamentals.
Information management including privacy and security considerations.
Familiarity with the following, depending on project assignment: Microsoft 365, JIRA, SQL, Helix ALM, Oracle BI Publisher, TopTeam
Skills and abilities:
Oral and written English communication; presentation skills and attention to detail when communicating.
Able to manage multiple priorities and consistently produce results within timelines.
Critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and judgment skills.
Able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal/external contacts.
