About Our Opportunity

We are recruiting a Business Analyst to join our innovative team working on projects that are delivering on social system change. The Business Analyst will work as part of a team within the Enterprise Project Delivery Unit (EPDU) of our Strategic Operations and Innovation Division. This unit is responsible for leading priority projects and initiatives for the department. As a Business Analyst, you will play an integral role on key projects and work of the department. This position reports to the Manager of the Unit but works under the direction of the Project Directors/Project Managers on a variety of priority work.

DCS currently has six project portfolios, all with significant process, system, and people change. As part of these teams, you will bring your process, social service, and technical business analysis experience and expertise to play a role in several projects, as well as in overall system planning and experience as we build the path forward. This role requires you to work with internal and external collaborators and play an active role in both projects you are directly assigned to as well as ensuring an understanding of the work across the department.

Primary Accountabilities

We are continuing our journey to improve client and system outcomes and count on your expertise to help us achieve this. As the Business Analyst, you will:

  • Work with a wide range of collaborators to gather, validate, and document business requirements, business process definitions, and workflow processes, and create forms to support departmental programs and services;
  • Track requirements throughout the project lifecycle and any associated risks, issues, actions, and lessons learned;
  • Communicate changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements to the project team and/or staff (users);
  • Participate in and/or lead user acceptance testing, including creating User Acceptance test plans, test cases, test coordination, and reporting;
  • Deliver on established outcomes by managing day-to-day relationships with clients, contract service providers, and teams while working within an established contract management plan;
  • Conduct business analysis, provide advice to project leadership, and process/system recommendations;
  • Prepare project deliverables and communications such as process and procedures documents, privacy impact assessments, and options analysis for senior leadership decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a strong collaborator, whose passion is teamwork and dedication to the successful delivery of both departmental and government priorities and outcomes.

As our next Business Analyst, you will have a university degree from a recognized school in business or computer science plus five (5) years related experience. You will also have:
  • Experience working in a project environment;
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience using MS office suite, MS Visio (or similar), and SharePoint;
  • Time management skills including the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, and multiple rapidly changing priorities;
  • Excellent collaboration skills and a knack for building relationships, at all levels;
  • The ability to translate and integrate business, technical, client, and staff needs into clear deliverables for decision making and project implementation.
The following will be considered assets:
  • certification or training in business analysis,
  • experience and/or education in UX/UI,
  • an understanding of human-centered design,
  • experience with case management systems, software development lifecycle, and IT release management processes.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Related equivalencies may include, but are not limited to:
  • A related master\xe2\x80\x99s degree and three (3) years related experience
  • Completion of a 2-year college diploma program and seven (7) years related experience

Working Conditions

This role is based in a comfortable office environment, and you may be working at your computer for extended periods of time. You may occasionally be required to travel to worksite locations.

Your normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day. This role does entail a high volume of work which may require longer than normal working hours and overtime. Due to the multiple spheres of action and scope of responsibilities that this position requires, there is significant mental pressure, requiring your resilience.

Additional Information

Two (2) opportunities are available. One (1) permanent and the other is a Term opportunity with anticipated end date of April 30, 2025. The appointment status (\xe2\x80\x98term\xe2\x80\x99, \xe2\x80\x98temporary\xe2\x80\x99 or \xe2\x80\x98casual\xe2\x80\x99) is dependent on the start date of the successful candidate.

Salary Range: $2,543.38 - $3,091.70 Bi-Weekly
