We are currently looking for a Business Analyst to join our Power Generation Finance team supporting the Point Tupper Generating Station in Port Hawkesbury, NS, in a Permanent position. As the Business Analyst you will be responsible for monitoring the financial performance of the plant and for providing reliable and timely information and analysis to the Senior Manager, Operations Finance and Senior Plant Manager to guide them in the decision-making process.

As Business Analyst you will:

  • Work with business leaders to prepare budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Track and monitor all plant operating expenses to budget/forecast.
  • Provide accounting for the monthly, quarterly and yearly closing process.
  • Provide detailed variance analyses.
  • Provide oversight & accounting support to administrative staff at the plant to ensure invoices are paid and requisitions are processed timely.
  • Timely completion of monthly reconciliations
  • Provide accounting and system support to the Capital Project team.
  • Assist the Plant Management Team to meet financial goals and identify cost saving initiatives.
  • Perform project and operational tasks with good overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Assist other locations with reporting and financial functions.
  • Preparing routine and ad hoc analysis, reports and special project responsibilities as assigned
What skills will make you successful?

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and where possible possess the skills and experience listed below:
  • As the ideal candidate, you have a Business degree in Finance or Accounting, and an accounting designation (CPA). Applicants with other combinations of relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • You also have a minimum of five years of experience in a related role.
  • You have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software.
  • A working knowledge of Oracle Financial System, Power Plan and PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
  • You possess solid oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated success in effectively presenting and communicating ideas at a variety of levels.
  • You have strong organizational skills, are details-oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines.
  • You can work well both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
