Job Title: IT Technical Business Analyst - Senior

Location: Edmonton Alberta T5J 3W7 (The resource will primarily work remotely)

Duties:

General Responsibilities (any or all):

Lead or facilitate meetings and workshops with GOA departments, clients, stakeholders, and project teams.

Collaborate with Product Owners/Managers to define and maintain the product roadmap, providing technical feasibility input, initial effort estimates, and identifying key technical dependencies to shape the timeline.

Lead efforts to research and document User Personas and User/Customer Journey Maps to build and define the "Who" and "Why" behind the solution.

Create and present formal business cases, including ROI analysis, for proposed technical solutions to secure project approval and funding.

Lead or support identifying, gathering, analyzing, and documenting business requirements from several business areas.

Translate business needs and user pain points into actionable, granular User Stories complete with precise, measurable Acceptance Criteria.

Own and prioritize the Product Backlog with the Product Owner, ensuring stories are ready for development, properly estimated, and aligned with technical dependencies.

Translate functional requirements into detailed technical specifications for engineers, including Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) for performance, security, and scalability.

Develop visual models like Data Flow Diagrams (DFDs), process maps (BPMN), and Data Models to illustrate current and future state architecture.

Maintain the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM), linking user stories to business goals, technical specifications, and test cases.

Define and execute the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) strategy and scripts, ensuring the delivered product satisfies the initial user goals captured in the personas.

Manage scope and requirements changes, assessing the impact on the roadmap, technical dependencies, and project timeline.

Capture and document business and technical metadata for data products.

Perform gap analyses.

Create new business and technical processes and complete business process reviews/re-engineering for existing processes.

Prepare presentations/demonstrations for engagement with stakeholders, steering committees, project groups and other stakeholders

Support the development of processes to enable sustainable data product delivery.

Support the development of business cases and procurements.

Coordinate approvals and sign-offs.

Contribute to training strategy, modules, and content pertaining to usage of technical platforms and tools.

Create or assist with creating project documents and associated planning documents.

Lead or support project status meetings and other meetings as required.

Provide support by bridging communication between vendors, client departments, and corporate technical and business teams.

Make recommendations to project teams pertaining to issues, risks, and client satisfaction.

Raise awareness of emerging issues that require senior or executive involvement

Qualifications /Must Have:

The proposed resource must meet or exceed one of the following:

University graduation in business, management or a related discipline and five-year Technical Business Analyst (BA) experience; OR

Two-year diploma in business, management or a related discipline and six-year BA experience; OR

One-year certificate in business, management or a related discipline and seven-year BA experience; OR

Eight-year BA experience

Work Experience:

Experience as a business analyst translating business requirements into detailed technical requirements in an enterprise IT environment.

Experience creating flowcharts/diagrams/analyses, including but not limited to activity, process flow, data flow, entity relationship, mind map, roadmap/plan, gap analysis, organizational chart, SWOT analysis, RACI matrix, UI wireframes, user personas/journey maps.

Experience dealing with clients and explaining complex data principles in a thoughtful manner.

Experience in developing, implementing, and operating Information and Data Management frameworks.

Experience working with clients/stakeholders to identify, gather, document, and analyze business data and process requirements.

Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment for cloud based Data Management projects using cloud technologies like Azure, Snowflake, etc.

Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment related to data analysis, data analytics, data visualization, data science, data mining.

Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, and deployment related to data management, acquisition, preparation, quality and data lineage/provenance.

Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis related to data modeling, ingestion, ETL, ELT, data joins

Deep understanding of APIs, data exchange protocols (JSON, XML), and cloud technologies (Azure, Snowflake).

Direct, hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis related to data manipulation/transformation, cleansing and wrangling.

Direct, hands-on experience with design and implementation of data security, data privacy, policies, data de-identification/anonymization, data audits/reviews, synthetic data

Experience in Agile project methodology.

Experience in planning/performing/monitoring User acceptance testing.

Experience with BI/data visualization tools (above and beyond spreadsheet software) as an end-user and/or in projects to implement such tools in a large enterprise environment.

Experience with Microsoft Azure DevOps Server

Experience working on concurrent projects spanning multiple technical environments.

Expert-level technical knowledge; capable of hands-on data exploration and troubleshooting by writing complex queries for data validation, profiling, and modeling. Working knowledge of Python or R for data analysis and scripting. Proficiency in creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models.

Extensive as a Technical BA, preferably leading initiatives in Data/AI/ML/Cloud. Translating high-level enterprise goals into a concrete technical roadmap.

Extensive experience in the Data Governance discipline.

Perform IT and/or business-related analysis, diagnosis, problem-solving, use case or scenario development, communication, presentations, planning, estimating, and documentation.

Experience creating new technical and/or business processes.

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 5 months

Pay: $80.14-$90.34 per hour
