Camp Miriam is a vibrant and welcoming youth-led overnight Jewish summer camp located on the beautiful Gabriola Island. Our mission is to provide children with an enriching and fun-filled experience, fostering personal growth, teamwork, cultural education and outdoor adventure. As we prepare for the upcoming summer season, we are seeking a reliable, friendly, and responsible Bus Driver to join our dedicated team.
Position Overview:
Please note that accommodation will not be provided. As such, candidates residing in Gabriola Island or Nanaimo will be given preference. If you reside in Gabriola Island and are not available to drive around Vancouver Island, we still encourage you to apply. We are open to discussing the details of the position and are flexible in making arrangements that work for you.
We are looking for a Bus Driver to transport campers and staff to and from Nanaimo and Gabriola Island on our "Move-In" and "Move-Out" days, as well as for off-site camping trips and activities. The ideal candidate will have excellent driving skills, a friendly demeanor, an insensitive ear to loud noises and singing, and a commitment to safety. The Bus Driver will play a key role in ensuring all campers have a smooth and enjoyable experience while traveling to and from camp.
The Bus Driver will work at least 5 days per week and will generally be on call from 10 AM to 6 PM most days throughout the summer. Notice will be given in advance of scheduled driving days. Duties will include a variety of driving tasks, such as multiple round trips or shorter 15-minute drives to and from the camp location. Most driving will occur around Gabriola Island, but some days may require longer drives into Vancouver Island.
Key Responsibilities:
? Safely transport campers and staff to/from camp and off-site locations.
? Ensure the bus is properly maintained and clean.
? Conduct pre-trip inspections and report any maintenance issues.
? Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transport.
? Communicate effectively with camp staff.
? Maintain a positive and professional attitude at all times.
Qualifications:
? Valid BC Class 2 driver's license.
? Clean driving record.
? Clean criminal record.
? Experience driving a passenger vehicle, preferably with children.
? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
? Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
? Previous experience in a camp or youth-focused setting is an asset.
? Strong commitment to safety and responsibility.
? Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.

Class 2 or Class 4 License:
? A Class 2 license is required for driving a bus that carries more than 24 passengers.
? A Class 4 license may be acceptable for smaller buses with fewer passengers (up to 25
passengers, including the driver), but if the bus is larger, a Class 2 is necessary.
Air Brake Endorsement: If the bus is equipped with air brakes, you will need an Air Brake Endorsement. This requires completing a specific test and certification to operate vehicles with air brake systems.
