Black & McDonald is currently seeking a full-time Building Operator to join our Facilities Management & Operations team in Vernon, BC! The Building Operator position is based at the Vernon Cadet Training Centre and will report directly to the Facilities Management & Operations Project Manager.

The Building Operator for the Department of National Defence Contract sites located across the BC Interior (specifically Vernon, Kelowna and Kamloops areas) will maintain safe conditions inside and outside of the facilities, performing minor plumbing and electrical repairs, as well as using the computerized building management system. They will conduct and coordinate Preventative Maintenance tasks and inspections for all building systems and services and corrective repairs as required to ensure continued availability of the building spaces. The Building Operator will use their experience and technical skills along with our CMMS system to support our high levels of service and customer satisfaction. This role may be required to assist at other sites within the BC Interior. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• In conjunction with the Project Manager and the team, plan and execute planned and corrective maintenance tasks
• Organize and plan work to meet schedules and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
• Supervise subcontractors
• Perform operational inspections and log readings
• Respond to tenant requests
• Perform light duties such as cleaning, painting, garbage removal, snow removal, HVAC, Plumbing, and other Mechanical duties, assisting sub-contractors technician's mechanics, etc.
• Maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships
• Assist in preparing construction project budget estimates
• Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
• Ensure all service reports are made available for any services that are conducted or overseen
• Assist in purchase of building materials
• Review work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk and correct deficiencies

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Class 5/4 Power Engineering or construction trade certification in plumbing/HVAC/electrical preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge and experience in building automated systems and HVAC systems
• Several years of experience in the Facility Management/mechanical/electrical service industry

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Available to travel throughout the BC Interior
• Available for Emergency Out-of-hours duties
• Clean Class 5 BC Driver's License and Abstract
• Must attend Black & McDonald Basics of Supervision training
• Must be able to obtain Reliability Status Federal security clearance (required for site access)
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
• Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to complete work in a timely manner
• Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
