Further information is available at www.bgis.com SUMMARY The Building Operator (Millwright) is responsible for performing preventative and corrective facility, routine and on-demand service and maintenance on facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems, in accordance with his/her specific and general qualifications and capabilities. At this position level: Performs preventative and corrective maintenance, mechanical or electrical equipment and low voltage systems Trades certification or License in one or both of the following is required:

  • Industrial Millwright license
Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs work in accordance to established processes and response & rectification guidelines.
  • Complies with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection.
  • Performs regular facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective Facility to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained.
  • Provides observations about facility, facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.
  • Monitors assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, mechanical and electrical equipment and system monitoring and inspection.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical building systems and equipment.
  • Responds to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
  • Records resolution data within service Facility management database.
  • Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements.
  • Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of Facility and repair work within service Facility management database.
  • Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required.
  • Works with subcontractors on equipment repair, preventative Facility and calibration.
  • Recommends spare parts and supply purchases for facility equipment.
  • Accurately maintains/completes all equipment logbooks and Facility records.
  • Assists in the implementation of preventative Facility (PM) program.
  • Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentations are maintained.
  • Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
  • Ensures the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
  • Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required.
  • Assists in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
  • Must follow Brookfield GIS? Health & Safety Policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work requirements
  • Must be able and willing to work flexible shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise.
  • Regularly scheduled evening and weekend work & 12 hours shift work may be required.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment.
  • Must use hand tools, lift/carry 50 lbs, and to work on ladders/step stools.
  • Requires working extended periods on his/her feet in a fast-paced environment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school completion plus a specialized technical or business course JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: More than three years up to five years

Knowledge & Skills
  • More than 3 years of facility experience ; experience working in a Data Centre facility is an asset.
  • Requires a good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a large facilities.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and schematics specific to his/her trade, where applicable.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (verbally, written).
  • Must be familiar with building automation systems (BAS) ? Metasys knowledge is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of computers and handheld devices.
  • Positive, professional disposition and ability to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors and to contribute productively to a project team.
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to succeed in a team oriented environment under very dynamic (changing) conditions.
Trades certification or License in one or both of the following is required:
  • Industrial Millwright license
Demonstrates an interest in completing, working towards or completed one or more of the following - preferred:
  • Facilities Technician Certification
  • Systems Maintenance Technician through Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI)
  • Systems Maintenance Administrator through Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI)
