Purpose of Position



Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities & Engineering, the Building Operations Technician is responsible for providing operational and administrative support to the Senior Manager, Facilities & Engineering, and the Supervisor, Building Operations. This role will ensure efficient daily maintenance and service delivery across the Aga Khan Museum, Ismaili Centre Toronto, and Aga Khan Park. This will include the supervision of on-site work, oversight of contractors and service providers, accountability for building systems, safety standards, and maintenance schedules.

Key Responsibilities



Operational Support and Maintenance



Conducting and logging routine daily inspections of building systems and infrastructure. Assisting in managing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) entries: creating, updating, and closing work orders. Executing preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with CMMS and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards for various equipment Troubleshooting electrical systems and safely measuring voltage and current, replacing defective parts like motors, motorized valves, fuses, breakers, and switches, etc. Troubleshooting the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system and replacing faulty parts like belts, filters, dampers, heating, and cooling valves, etc. Hands-on understanding of Building Automation System (BAS), such as Metasys (HVAC) and Lutron (lighting). A working understanding of water treatment is required for the steam boilers, reflective pools, and closed-loop hot water and chilled water systems. Performing general repair tasks and minor renovations, including basic plumbing, electrical, lighting, painting, carpentry and drywall. Ensuring proper functioning of building systems such as HVAC, including chillers, steam boilers, air-handling units, exhaust fans, pumps, life safety systems, reflective pools, irrigation and snow melting systems. Overseeing upkeep and seasonal maintenance of grounds, gardens, reflective pools, common areas and outdoor infrastructure, including line painting, snow removal, irrigation checks, and waste management. Supporting set-up and tear-down for internal and public events.

Team Support



Acting as primary backup for the Supervisor, Building Operations, when required, ensuring coverage and timely response to operational needs. Supporting daily task coordination, shift scheduling and resource allocation, including event set-up and tear-down. Providing day-to-day supervision, direction, and on-site instruction to service contractors.

Vendor & Contractor Oversight



Liaising with service contractors for HVAC, pest control, elevators, waste, cleaning, and landscaping, etc. Monitoring contractor performance and escalating issues as needed to the Senior Manager, Facilities & Engineering and the Supervisor, Building Operations. Participating in reviewing contractor logs, service completion reports, and compliance checklists.

Regulatory & Safety Compliance



Ensuring maintenance activities adhere to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), Fire Code, Building Code, and other relevant regulations. Supporting documentation and compliance efforts for inspections and regulatory audits. Maintaining cleanliness, safety, and organization of mechanical and service rooms.

Administrative Support



Assisting in managing CMMS work orders and in supporting data analysis to enhance preventive maintenance and equipment reliability. Helping prepare and review daily and weekly operational reports. Tracking inventory levels and assisting with ordering parts, tools, and consumables. Any other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Qualifications & Experience



A 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate or equivalent is preferred. 3 to 5 years of experience in a facilities operation or building maintenance role. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), First Aid/CPR, or other safety certification is an asset. Hands-on experience with HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems. Building Environmental Systems (BES) Certificate, or a license/certification in gas, plumbing or electrical. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Proficient in using BAS and CMMS platforms. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement. Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and relationship management skills. Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and respect for diverse populations. Knowledge and passion for arts and culture is an asset. Expressed interest in the mandate of the Museum.

Pay: $70,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
