8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., five days a week, Monday to Friday inclusive and attendance at meetings as required. Flexible work schedule also available.
CURRENT PAY RATE:
Range based on qualifications (Level 1,2,3): $39.56 -$53.97 per hour, plus full benefit package.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Responsible for the performance of a variety of duties in the area of building and plumbing inspection, zoning and Official Community Plan uses.
SUPERVISION:
The incumbent is responsible to the Manager of Planning & Development.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accepts permit applications.
Checks plans for compliance with Building Codes, zoning requirements, building and associated bylaws.
Discusses with design professionals the requirements of the building and related codes.
Assists the public with land use, zoning, subdivision and building requirements.
Keeps up to date on changes to all pertinent Codes.
Monitors and inspects construction and demolition projects.
Monitors the City for projects without permits.
Prepares reports and information for Board of Variance and acts as administrator.
Maintains drawing storage reference library.
Issues building, demolition, sign and temporary permits.
Inspects premises at business licence application stage to ensure compliance with Bylaws and Codes.
Reviews and makes recommendations for amendments to Building and other associated bylaws.
Makes recommendations for proceeding with court action when violations of codes and bylaws occur. Assists with preparing evidence and appears in court when necessary.
Ensures compliance of the City's standard of maintenance bylaw.
Other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Includes, but are not limited to the following:
Shall be currently active in the field and have a minimum of five years experience in municipal building inspection.
Our preference would be individuals with Level 3 Certificate with the Building Officials Association of British Columbia, however applicants with Level 1, 2, or 3 will be considered.
Valid B.C. Driver's Licence, Class 5.
Excellent report writing abilities.
Strong computer experience with applicable programs/software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Shall have the ability to self-motivate and to function with very minimal supervision.
Ability to deal courteously, tactfully, and diplomatically with people.
Shall have the ability to work under pressure and on own initiative.
Shall have the ability and skills to assist in the training of employees as required.
Shall have the desire and initiative to undertake additional training courses for upgrading skills and abilities.
