Building Kinship Ties is a culturally rooted mentorship program designed to support Indigenous youth through meaningful, consistent relationships grounded in culture, land, and community. This program canters ceremony, creativity, community involvement, and healing -- developed in partnership between The Comeback Society, YWCA Regina, and the Ministry of Social Services.
We are seeking First Nations, Metis, or Inuit mentors who are grounded in their identity, value intergenerational relationships, and are committed to walking beside youth on their personal journeys.
Responsibilities:
Build trusting, consistent mentorship relationships with 1-3 Indigenous youth
Provide approx. 10 hours/week per mentee, including outings, activities, and support
Participate in and plan mentorship activities based on the seasonal cultural calendar (e.g., land-based teachings, berry picking, ice fishing, seasonal ceremonies, etc.)
Engage in outdoor activities and land-based learning regularly
Attend or introduce youth to ceremonies (e.g., sweats, feasts, pipe ceremonies), guided by protocol and youth interest
Volunteer together with mentees in community-based activities to build responsibility and connection
Support youth in areas such as identity, wellness, life skills, and future goals
Submit short monthly progress updates
Attend required training, cultural support sessions, and program debriefs
Qualifications:
Must identify as First Nations, Metis, or Inuit
Grounded in Indigenous values and open to sharing or learning cultural practices
Experience working with Indigenous youth or youth in care (lived experience welcome)
Comfortable outdoors and in creative, flexible environments
Able to walk beside youth with empathy, integrity, and consistency
Willing to engage in community service with mentees
Valid driver's license and access to transportation preferred
Vulnerable Sector Check required
