In partnership with the Department of Education, Culture and Employment and the NWT Native Women\'s Association, the De Beers Group of Companies has opportunities for six (6) highly motivated and energetic women interested in exploring the trades at Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine in the Northwest Territories.

This paid eleven (11) day learning program provides women with an introduction to the many different trades that keeps Gahcho Kue running. You will spend time with skilled artisans as they show you their craft in the fields of Instrumentation, Electrical, Millwright, Carpentry, Heavy Equipment Technician, Plumber, Light Vehicle Technician, Mobile Crane Operator and Supply / Logistics / Parts Inventory.

Participants will travel to the Gahcho Kue mine for one of the three following date ranges. The schedules are subject to change and will be determined based on availability.

  • April 24 - May 4
  • May 8 - May 18
  • May 22 - June 1
Apprenticeship Opportunity:

At the end of the program, one of the participating candidates will have the opportunity to be hired by De Beers as a paid full-time Apprentice at Gahcho Ku\xc3\xa9 Mine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Job shadowing: accompanying skilled trades artisans while they complete tasks in active work environments;
  • Staying safe at all times: carefully following the directions of your host at all times in active work areas;
  • Curiosity: engaging with your hosts and asking questions about their trade;
  • Seeing the whole picture: understanding how different trades interact and support each other in keeping Gahcho Kue mine site operational;
  • Appreciating the details: developing an awareness of the many different tasks performed in each area of trades specialization;
  • Understanding the learning curve: developing an appreciation for the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by trades artisans to perform an array of specialized tasks; and,
  • Reflecting on your experiences: meeting with your assigned mentor each day and sharing what you\'ve learned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to form productive and rewarding partnerships with your hosts and mentor;
  • Ability to organize for the day\'s tasks and adapt effectively and safely to changes in priorities;
  • Ability to process information and reflect upon what you\'ve learned;
  • Ability to communicate and approach others in a professional and effective manner; and
  • Ability to adapt well to learning at a remote mining site in a cross-cultural environment;
  • Please note you must be a permanent resident of the Northwest Territories to be eligible;
  • To be considered eligible for selection, the candidate must have the required high school grades necessary to register as an apprentice with the Department of Education under Category B as shown at:
