Facilities Maintenance Technician



The Acadia Community Association, operates the Acadia Recreation Complex which is a facility comprised of a 10 sheet curling venue, a hockey rink, banquet room, multiple purpose room, racquetball /squash courts and is the hub for an active and vibrant community - ACADIA. Located in the SE of Calgary, we are central to many activities and amenities. We are excited to have the right person join our team!



Summary



Job Summary:



We are seeking an organized and dedicated Building Facilities Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of the Acadia Recreation Complex (ARC). The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective management of the building, grounds, and recreational amenities. You will work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to support community programs and ensure the facility meets the needs of our members, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities



Facility Operations: Oversee daily operations of the recreational building, including main hall, arena (ice and dry pad), curling rink (ice and dry pad), multipurpose rooms, and other activity spaces.

Maintenance & Repairs: Coordinate and supervise regular maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of the facility, adhering to the building lifecycle report and BCA report. Ensure the overall building is clean, safe, and functional at all times.

Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise facility supervisors, operators, ice attendants and custodial staff, ensuring effective team performance and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.

Budget Management: Develop and manage the facilities budget, including costs for repairs, supplies, utilities, and staffing, ensuring efficient use of resources.

Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health, safety, fire, and building codes. Regularly inspect the facility to identify potential hazards and mitigate risks. Ensure compliance of all safety protocols, programs and training.

Vendor & Contractor Coordination: Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors, negotiating contracts, overseeing service agreements, and ensuring the timely completion of work. Includes being the primary liaison on capital projects with the City of Calgary.

Event Support: Work closely with the program and event teams to ensure the facility is prepared for activities, programs, and special events. Set up and tear down event spaces as required. Support clients needs.

Sustainability Initiatives: Identify and implement cost-effective and environmentally sustainable practices related to energy use, waste management, and facility operations.

Inventory Management: Oversee the procurement and management of facility supplies, equipment, and materials, ensuring adequate stock and timely reordering.

Community Engagement: Collaborate with the ED and the ACA board of directors where appropriate to ensure that the facility meets the needs of the community, aligning with the ACA's mission and goals.

Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of facility operations, maintenance schedules, compliance reports, policies and procedures. Regularly report on building usage, costs, and any operational challenges to the ED. Work with the ED on budgeting of maintenance and expenses.

Qualifications and Core Competencies

- Commitment to the Core Values and Strategic Plan of the ACA

- Minimum of 3 years of experience in facilities management, preferably in a nonprofit or community recreational setting.

- Knowledge of building maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general repairs.

- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.

- Financial management experience, including budgeting and cost control.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer service-oriented approach.

- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in facility management.

- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, contractors, and community members.

- Proficiency in facilities management software or tools for scheduling and maintenance tracking (preferred).

Ice Level 1 and 2 Ice Arena Facility Knowledge - Boilers, Compressors, HVAC, Electrical, plumbing, mechanically inclined Communication skills / record keeping (Google Drive) Teamwork Pride in Quality Work Problem Solving Accountability and Dependability Operating Equipment Ethics and Integrity Will have to perform tasks on lifts and up ladders
Continuous improvement protocol- Always looking for efficiencies and deficiencies to improve the building and customer experience.

Continually learn about and perform scheduled maintenance on equipment to ensure that it performs optimally to ensure no loss of downtime.

Work Conditions



Manual dexterity required Lifting or moving up to 30lbs may be required Will perform work both indoors and outdoors Outdoor work may be performed in inclement weather, in a wide range of temperatures (weather specific uniforms will be provided) Work Onsite only (not remotely)
Schedule:

Primary schedule of M-F Days, on call evenings and weekends, available for events and time related tasks as needed.
We are looking for a confident and dedicated person who cares about their work and the facility. This person will lead maintenance and efficiency management for the building. You will know the building inside and out and become a go-to person for troubleshooting and repairs. Managing and scheduling regular maintenance and updates as part of your regular routine along with season upgrades, renovations and improvements in the facility. Reporting to the Executive Director.

Job Types: Permanent 5 days a week

Expected hours: 40 per week.

Pay: $60,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
