About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Building Commissioning Project Manager to lead and deliver commissioning activities for complex commercial, institutional, and industrial projects throughout the Greater Ottawa Region. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, proven project leadership, and a deep understanding of commissioning processes, standards, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Management
Lead, plan, and manage commissioning projects from pre-design through occupancy and warranty.
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
Coordinate multidisciplinary commissioning teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
Manage multiple projects concurrently while meeting timelines and quality requirements.
Technical Commissioning Expertise
Develop commissioning plans, specifications, functional performance tests, and associated documentation.
Review design documentation to ensure alignment with commissioning requirements and owner objectives.
Conduct site inspections, verification of installed systems, and oversight of functional performance testing.
Lead commissioning activities for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, controls, life-safety, and building envelope systems.
Identify, track, and resolve deficiencies in collaboration with project stakeholders.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the commissioning process.
Conduct commissioning meetings, presentations, and progress reporting.
Provide technical guidance and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
Documentation & Quality Assurance
Prepare commissioning reports, test results, issues logs, and closeout documentation.
Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ASHRAE, CSA, LEED, NECB, and other applicable guidelines.
Support post-occupancy evaluations and warranty-phase inspections.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Science, or related field.
Minimum 10 years of commissioning or related building systems experience.
Professional designation or certification preferred (e.g., P.Eng., CEM, CMVP, BCxP, LEED AP).
Extensive experience with HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems.
Strong understanding of building codes, energy standards, and commissioning guidelines.
Proven project management experience and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites across the Ottawa region.
Assets
Experience with federal or provincial government projects.
Familiarity with sustainability certification processes (LEED, Zero Carbon, Net Zero).
Experience with commissioning software or project management tools.
Languages
Bilingual English/French (spoken and written) - required to communicate with clients, contractors, and consultants across the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
