Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Broker Development Specialist is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with external broker partners. This role supports the growth and effectiveness of the broker network through the design, coordination, and delivery of targeted training and development initiatives. The Broker Development Specialist identifies broker learning needs, develops relevant educational resources, and analyzes performance and engagement trends to enhance broker capability, engagement, and alignment with organizational objectives.
The successful candidate will bring strong communication and facilitation skills, combined with data-driven insight, to deliver impactful development programs that strengthen broker performance and long-term partner relationships.
Work location for this position can be in-office, or hybrid combining the flexibility for travel to broker offices, in-office, and remote days. The Broker Development role does require travel for the purpose of broker training, meetings, conventions, trade shows and attending other events and training opportunities within the Province of Ontario.
Specific Responsibilities
Strengthen broker capabilities through targeted training and development programs.
Identify performance trends, skill gaps, and learning opportunities across the broker network.
Support and assist the COO with the analysis and auditing of broker performance metrics as needed.
Regularly visit brokers (virtually or in person) to gather feedback, challenges and review training opportunities.
Integrate appropriate broker feedback into operational recommendations.
Proactively assess broker partner needs and provide ongoing support and guidance related to digital platforms and portals to enhance efficiency and ease of doing business.
Contribute to product development and enhancement initiatives by gathering, analyzing, and applying broker feedback.
Foster consistent communication and alignment between brokers and Kent & Essex Mutual.
Identify new opportunities for growth as well as strategies for retention of broker partnerships.
Work collaboratively with other teams to deliver training sessions or workshops on new products, systems, and company policies.
Work closely with internal departments to ensure broker satisfaction and efficiency.
Assist in the planning, coordination, and participation in promotional and community-based events aligned with organizational values and market presence.
Support marketing and communications initiatives through the development of broker-focused campaigns, materials, and messaging.
Skills & Requirements
3-5 years of experience in P&C insurance, preferably within broker relations, training, or development.
Preference given to applicants with prior knowledge and understanding of Broker workflows, operations and technology, or work experience in a sales or marketing capacity.
Insurance designation (e.g., CIP, CAIB) or willingness to obtain is considered an asset.
Proven experience designing and facilitating training programs.
Familiarity with insurance products, distribution channels, and broker operations.
Excellent presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify actionable trends.
Proficient in MS Office Suite, CRM systems, and willingness to learn new technology.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated, organized, and collaborative team player.
Possess the means and ability to travel for work, as appropriate.
