Job Title: Bridges Business Unit Manager
Location: Edmonton, AB
Salary: $170KOverview:Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations and Management Team, the Bridges Business Unit Manager will oversee the successful development and management of a profitable bridge construction and maintenance business. This includes implementing corporate strategies for marketing and business development, ensuring accurate estimating and bidding, and coordinating all aspects of project management. The ideal candidate will be proactive, open to learning new tasks, and ready to take on significant responsibilities within the team. Strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and comprehensive industry knowledge are essential to succeed in this role.Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the corporate strategic plan and budgeting process, with a focus on the bridge sector.
  • Develop operational plans and budgets for the Bridge Business Unit and assist with major purchasing decisions.
  • Ensure clear communication between the Bridge Business Unit and the Management Team.
  • Build and maintain profitable business relationships with clients, partners, and consultants, while monitoring industry trends to identify new opportunities.
  • Procure work by managing the estimating and bidding process, including cost assessments and securing suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Set competitive profit margins based on market conditions, workloads, and project desirability.
  • Provide leadership to project teams, ensuring project planning and contract management are executed to meet or exceed expectations, timelines, and budgets.
  • Optimize productivity by tracking workloads and future projects to avoid over-commitment.
  • Resolve project-related issues with clients and consultants while implementing processes that improve efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
  • Oversee quality control through site visits, inspections, and independent testing.
  • Manage project documentation and expenses, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all records.
  • Collaborate with partner companies and attend pre-construction meetings as necessary.
  • Analyze project data to continuously improve the estimating and bidding process for future projects.
  • Develop and maintain a network of reliable suppliers and subcontractors, manage inventory, and ensure timely procurement of supplies and materials.
  • Lead employee performance management, including recruiting, training, and determining wages and bonuses.
  • Ensure compliance with safety legislation and corporate safety standards through regular site inspections, safety meetings, and hazard assessments.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to employees, while training for future leadership roles.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Project Management (PM) designation and Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
  • 20+ years of experience in bridge construction and maintenance, including estimating and business development.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with a focus on safety and employee development.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and knowledge of bridge specifications, particularly with Alberta Transportation and Saskatchewan Highways.
  • Experience with the Bid-2-Win system is desirable.
  • Strategic planning, process improvement, and business acumen are key strengths.
  • Willingness to travel for work when necessary.
