Branded Content & Lifestyle Writer

Hours: 40 hours/week

Position: Remote with some on-site duties

Location: Victoria, British Columbia

Who you are:



A driven self-starter with a flair for the written word and a knowledge of all things Victoria. You've got an inquisitive mind and love coming up with creative ways to phrase stories, whether serious or informal. You have your finger on the pulse of what's going on around town, whether it be the next big concert or new restaurant opening. You're familiar with us and other local media outlets, and recognize the role played by social media in the dynamic world of journalism.

Please note that the Branded Content portion of this position is a temporary role filling in for an employee on maternity leave--there will be opportunity for a permanent position in the Lifestyle Writer role following one year of employment with us.

Responsibilities:



Produce multiple pieces of editorial content on a daily basis, with a focus on lifestyle pieces but ability to jump in on news stories, whether they be breaking or otherwise Create branded content and work closely with our clients to ensure their satisfaction, while still staying true to the Victoria Buzz brand Conduct necessary research required for content, including attending occasional events and conducting phone and/or in-person interviews Work with the Publisher to ensure that all articles adhere to company standards of quality, originality, and objectivity Liaison with both the Project Manager and Sales & Promotions Director in order to adhere to branded content schedules and guidelines Increase the credibility of the company through trustworthy and ethical work Monitor and track industry trends, innovations, and immediate competition and apply learnings and insight to work Build and maintain relationships with industry professionals Appear in, host and create videos, if needed

Qualifications:



Minimum one-year of demonstrated writing experience, preferably with another media outlet Excellent written and verbal communication skills Proficiency in WordPress or other CMS Familiarity with software tools like Slack, Google Docs and Asana Excellent understanding of social media and its importance to journalism
