Position Overview

Kiewit has an immediate opening for Balance of Plant (BoP) Mechanical Engineer willing to specialize in the fields of Hydropower, Dams and Hydraulic Structures (HDH) to complement the team capabilities in engineering design, planning and coordination for HDH projects. The candidate will work closely within an interdisciplinary team that includes civil, structural, hydraulic, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as estimators, schedulers and other construction professionals to provide various services to internal groups and clients for HDH projects.

Responsibilities will include HDH project BoP mechanical design and technical support to sub-consultant for BoP mechanical engineering needs, support for design management, support for business development efforts, participation in proposal preparation, contribution to construction estimating, scheduling, and planning efforts. Location

This position will be based out of one of Kiewit\'s major hub locations across Canada (Laval, QC; Saguenay, QC; Oakville, ON; Burnaby, BC) with travel as business necessitates to different project sites and other offices. We do, however, have a local presence in Quebec City, and are also interested in recruiting in this region. Position could qualify for flexible remote work as well based on the candidate experience.

Responsibilities

  • Act as project engineer/engineering integrator for the BoP mechanical needs of HDH projects. BoP mechanical services related to hydroelectric generating stations, dams and hydraulic structures may include but are not limited to:
  • Piping networks related to the operation of turbine-generator units and generating stations (cooling water, compressed air, drainage, pressurized oil, lubricating oil, domestic water, wastewater, fire protection, etc.);
  • HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, air conditioning);
  • Auxiliary mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, fans, air treatment units, oil/water separators, hydraulic units - HPU, valves, bubblers, etc.);
  • Lifting equipment for maintenance and servicing (jib cranes, hoists, overhead travelling cranes, lifting accessories, etc.).
  • Perform the design, or peer review of sub-consultant work, of various BoP mechanical services, including :
  • Calculation and sizing;
  • Selection of materials and equipment;
  • Preparation of technical specifications;
  • Preparation of drawings.
  • Participate in the coordination and management of HDH engineering projects;
  • Support the HDH business development efforts of Kiewit\'s various Districts across North America;
  • Contribute to HDH proposals with scope definition, specification development, drawings and designs;
  • Contribute to the development of the HDH engineering team by building internal tools and processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Over 10 years of experience in project design in the mechanical engineering field.
  • Valid engineering license in at least one Canadian province. A license to practice in a U.S. state is an asset.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Good French and English communication skills.
  • Dynamic, autonomous, innovative, customer focus and team spirit.
