About this Opportunity: M M S LLP, is a 5 staff, 3 lawyer litigation firm located in downtown Vancouver. This Bookkeeper position is an independent, one - person responsibility for all aspects of full-cycle law firm accounting, with hybrid and flex hours perfect for someone who is juggling at home family and work responsibilities. Responsibilities include managing AR, AP, bank and trust account reconciliations, managing several accounts, ledgers, trust accounting, and creating invoices with disbursement lists. We encourage daily interactions with other staff about approaching priorities, or having a chat with other friendly staff members looking for a break. Working several days from home can be a goal achieved (with some residual in-house accounting tasks) once the accounts are running smoothly. The Bookkeeping position has its own physical office. Pay Terms/ Work Environment This position can be contract (if you operate your own business) or as employee. Pay is based on $30-40/hr; working remotely with some minor in-office presence is an option after training and transition to cloud based system is completed. Separate office is available. Responsibilities Include
Processing of client invoicing and disbursements (includes reviewing of supporting documents/ AP)
Inputting AP and filing invoices in physical files, producing cheques.
Processing Payroll semi-monthly with payment to external contractor
Manage A/R postings and investigations
Manage G/L on several bank accounts and sub accounts (ie. general, disbursement trust)
Manage GST/PST/EHT government filings
Manage any NSF cheques, returned items, direct deposits, service charges etc.
Manage credit card payments and postings to PCLaw
Monthly account and G/L reconciliations, review AR/ AP listings and G/L
WIP reviews and Bank report
Manage tax account and payments
Year end statements for external auditor/ accountants
Managing Trust Account G/L reconciliations and annual Trust Report
Qualifications
Post -Secondary Education in Accounting
Minimum 3 years experience in full-cycle general accounting; experience in Law firm Accounting is essential
MS Office (Excel) and knowledge of accounting software (PC Law highly desired - although we are transitioning to a cloud based system)
Strong computer technical skills
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
You are self motivated, organized, and independent
Ability to recognize gaps in knowledge with a desire to learn
Ability to prioritize multiple or conflicting demands
