Apex Language and Career College (ALCC) is a private English language school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, dedicated to supporting international students on their educational journey. To strengthen our operations, we are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to oversee our financial records and ensure compliance with financial standards.
Responsibilities
Accurately record and reconcile tuition payments, refunds, and student account balances.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices, utilities, and supply purchases.
Process payroll for instructors and administrative staff, tracking schedules and contracts.
Maintain ledgers, reconcile monthly bank statements, and assist with year-end financial preparation.
Prepare financial reports to support school management in analyzing enrollment, budgets, and program performance.
Complete and submit required government filings such as payroll remittances, sales tax, pension contributions, and workers' compensation.
Experience
Completion of a college program or courses in accounting, bookkeeping, or business administration (preferred).
Familiarity with computerized accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) and MS Excel/Word.
Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently in a professional school setting.
Experience with payroll processing is a plus.
Ability to analyze financial data and provide insights for decision-making is highly valued.
Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members across various departments.
