Join us as Blaster ! Glacier Blasting part of NorLand Limited is searching for new team members to fill the positions of Blasters for our remote site-based projects in Northern Canada. Reporting to the Site Foreman, for a designated project, you will work closely with the drilling and blasting crews to plan, coordinate, and execute blasts on the project in line with our SOP for surface blasting. You will communicate any requirements for blasting that you see necessary from a safety perspective and operations perspective to the Site Superintendent/Foreman looking after your area.


Duties & Responsibilities:




Coordinating explosives required for the day Counting and recording all explosive products used in each blast Co-ordinate your blaster helpers efficiently and ensure that they are following the best practices laid out in our Blasting SOP Updating Superintendent/Foreman on blast time changes (delays or advancement of the schedule) Coordinating guarding locations, clearing the blast area, and coordinating warning before blasting as per Regulatory requirements and our Blasting SOP Review the blast plan and site conditions before each blast and communicate any problems or differences found in the field versus the plan Coordinate your explosive quantity requirements for the day based on the blast plan Communicate Blast Zone requirements based on the loading and any problem areas in the loading that may require a change to the blast zone area Communicate any changes in the blast time planned for that blast to the Superintendent/Foreman Work with the project team to plan and schedule a work sequence to maximize the potential of the project Provides training for helpers, as required o Execute the blast as per our SOP for surface blasting, with the highest regard for safety, and professionalism

Qualifications & Skills:




Jurisdictional blasters ticket or equivalent from another Canadian Province Thorough understanding of drilling & blasting methods applied under various site conditions Read and understand blast plans as required on-site Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies and changes required to the blast plan based on specific field conditions Ability to work well with a team of blasters and helpers, ensuring that the quality of work completed remains at a high level Jurisdictional blasters ticket or equivalent from another Canadian Province Thorough understanding of drilling & blasting methods applied under various site conditions Read and understand blast plans as required on-site Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done Good attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies and changes required to the blast plan based on specific field conditions Ability to work well with a team of blasters and helpers, ensuring that the quality of work completed remains at a high level Ability to pass pre-access site medicals/drug and alcohol screening (some projects may require further checks such as criminal background and medical clearance) Ability to obtain Security Screening to allow for handling explosives materials, a Possession and Acquisition License PAL will satisfy this requirement

Working Conditions:




Remote fly-in camp locations - Typical rotation is 4 weeks in and 2 weeks out, 12-hour days Field environment with extreme outdoor temperatures, working to deadlines, some high-stress situations (e.g., meeting deadlines) May be required to work outside of normal work hours to meet the needs of the project Will be working with drills in a high dust and noise environment (PPE required) Frequent travel to various sites and frequent schedule changes On-call for emergencies as needed
