The Biomedical Services department, nested within the NAIT School of Health and Life Sciences' Centre for Advanced Medical Simulation (CAMS), serves the NAIT School of Health and Life Science's equipment needs. With programs ranging from Diagnostic Imaging, Veterinary Health and Dental Health Sciences to Respiratory Therapy, Personal Fitness Training, Diagnostic Laboratory and Emergency Medical Services, our programs utilize a wide range of medical technologies. To ensure our students receive the best exposure possible to our equipment, Biomedical Services supports instructional activities by designing and implementing ongoing preventative maintenance procedures, responding to repair requests, assisting with equipment installations, and providing technical expertise to the organization. Currently, we are recruiting for a Biomedical Technologist. This position requires a self-motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.




Key Responsibilities:



Maintain the performance of educational equipment in the School of Health and Life Sciences, including troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, testing, and inspecting a wide variety of medical and electronic equipment. Make complex operational decisions relative to School lab and equipment needs in line with department guidelines. Perform preventative maintenance on lab equipment. Maintain accurate records of maintenance and of issues requiring attention. Respond in real time to service requests and diagnose equipment problems/failures within the School. Manage tasks such as maintaining service records, processing expense reports, tracking preventative maintenance, handling shipping and receiving, issuing alerts, and completing related documentation. Maintain databases for equipment, information systems, picture archiving communication systems (PACS), and others, as required. Educate end users on the safe use of complex equipment. Order, receive, and maintain required supplies. Assist and support applied research initiatives in the School in relation to lab and equipment needs. Assist as a subject matter expert for equipment purchases, usage, and lifecycle management.

Skills & Abilities:



Preference will be given to candidates with experience and service training related to equipment in one or more of our program areas: diagnostic imaging, medical laboratory, dental (lab or clinic), community health (paramedic or respiratory therapy), veterinary health, or manikin-based simulation. Experience with mechanical devices, tools and test equipment, possess fundamentals of DICOM & Networking, and computer-based competency, and proven component-level repair skills. 3D-design and printing, or other manufacturing techniques, are considered an asset. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications:



Biomedical Engineering Technology Diploma from a recognized postsecondary institute, or equivalent in education and experience. Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in medical equipment repair and service.


Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).




Remuneration

: $63,292.58 - $85,053.80 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification - Electronics Technologist III).




This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
