Primary Responsibilities




HDR is seeking an Intermediate Biologist to support environmental permitting, perform compliance monitoring, and conduct wildlife, vegetation and/or aquatics surveys on projects throughout western Canada. This unique opportunity combines permitting, monitoring, field surveys, and reporting in support of projects in our transportation, water, and natural resources market sectors. Successful candidates will work on multidisciplinary projects including rail, pipeline, linear developments, and mining projects to address current and future challenges. This position will provide the successful candidate with unique experiences in multifaceted provincial and federal permitting and analysis in close coordination with project team members and subject matter experts that will foster learning and skill development across multiple disciplines and project types.


Primary responsibilities in this role include planning for and carrying out field work, conducting focused surveys and habitat assessments, coordinating with regulatory agencies, preparing technical reports for clients and regulators and performing other project-related duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in biology, zoology, ecology, limnology or closely related field Ability to work independently and as part of a team Environmental monitoring experience Multidisciplinary experience is considered an asset (e.g., experience working in a variety of biological disciplines including wildlife, vegetation, and soils) Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental permitting and related environmental processes is strongly preferred Experience with biological impacts analyses (provincial and federal permitting) SPIGEC 6 qualification preferred General knowledge of construction monitoring, including during frozen conditions Experience interpreting and evaluating project specific Environmental Protection Plans considered an asset Quantitative and analytical skills will be helpful

Required Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field A minimum of 5 years experience managing biological/environmental projects Leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office Strong oral and written communication skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
