Job Overview:

Reporting to the Clinical Biomedical Laboratory Manager and the Director of the Clinical Biomedical Laboratory, and under the supervision of the Clinical Specialist, the Biological Science Specialist is responsible for performing necessary analyses and related documentation, mainly in the molecular diagnostics laboratory, and will also be responsible to perform activities in the field of specialized histology and histomorphometry. He/she is engaged in the development and implementation of new methodologies and the preparation and review of laboratory reports, and policies and procedures to meet Accreditation Canada, CLIA, CAP and ISO laboratory standards. He/she will be required to function both autonomously and in a team setting to support the Clinical Biomedical Laboratory while targeting clinical, research, and educational components. The incumbent must have meticulous laboratory skills, strong attention to details be at ease to work autonomously and have developed skills for meticulous documentation and interpretation of accreditation standards.
Responsibilities:

Responsible to perform clinical laboratory activities in the fields of Molecular Diagnostics and Histomorphometry (may include other laboratory disciplines)Performs and documents laboratory methods Analyses and reports accurate and precise test results Participates in the preparation of patient laboratory test reports Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test performance or communication of patient test results Communicates pertinent information/issues to supervisor Performs instrument maintenance and method troubleshooting Monitors and maintain inventory of laboratory supplies Validates, performs and trains staff on laboratory methods Establish, conduct and maintain education program related to scientific methodologies needed for current activities Keeps informed and maintain the compliance dossier for all applicable laboratory requirements, such as Accreditation Canada, CAP, CLIA and ISO standards, according to assigned subject areas. Assists in documentation and maintaining effective department Quality programs and QC monitoring that is compliant with regulatory standards Exercises all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures while applying principles of good laboratory practice Answers queries with internal and external collaborators Review and write policies and procedures

Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in a related discipline (ex: Molecular Biology, Biological Sciences) Minimum 5 years of experience in a Clinical Laboratory or combination of experience and pertinent training Experience with sequencing methodologies and histomorphometry, histology (preferred) Member of OPTMQ or CSMLS certification Experience with applicable standards such as CAP, Accreditation Canada, CLIA, ISO 15189 * Fluency in French written and spoken; capacity to communicate (written and spoken) in English is required in order to support or collaborate with English-speaking clients and/or stakeholders
