. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The University of Calgary's Charbonneau Cancer Institute has a thriving immunotherapy research program focused on developing next-generation cellular immunotherapies and delivering them to cancer patients in Alberta and beyond. In bringing together basic, translational and clinical scientists and supporting them to achieve a shared mission, this unique ecosystem for translational research produces knowledge, inventions, collaborations, and commercial opportunities. The bioinformatician role will be positioned within the Discovery and Innovation node of this program to (1) to identify and study novel therapeutic targets for cellular therapy in solid tumors, and (2) support collaborative research projects. The successful candidate will have responsibility at technical and intellectual levels.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
(job functions include but are not limited to):
Research Design and Implementation
Design and implement pipelines for analysis of sequencing datasets, including genomes, transcriptomes, proteomes, and spatial or single cell sequencing datasets from both pre-clinical and clinical samples
Analyze experimental data, summarize and report findings
Develop bespoke computational workflows and protocols
Contribute to data assembly and writing of scientific manuscripts and grants
Presenting research at local, national and international meetings is highly encouraged
Supervision and Collaboration
Work collaboratively with other staff and trainees within the immunotherapy program to achieve shared goals
Work collaboratively with multiple PIs and their teams on diverse projects related to their informatics analysis needs towards translational medicine
Other tasks and responsibilities as they arise
Qualifications / Requirements:
MSc degree Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, or related field required; a PhD is an asset
Minimum 3-5 years of relevant research experience, including experience in data science, genomics, bioinformatics, or machine learning
Proficiency in at least one programming language (such as Python or R)
Experience with Linux / Unix working environments, and high-performance computing clusters
Expertise with analysis and algorithm development on complex NGS datasets
Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment
Detail oriented, organized, and strong written communication skills as evidenced by a record of publication and scholarship
Track record of presenting research at local and national meetings
Demonstrated communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
