The Position

Bioinformatics Intern

Length: 4 to 6 months.

Type: Remote OR Hybrid.

Responsibilities:

• Literature review in the area of Domain Adaptation.
• Implements or modifies existing algorithms to analyze NGS data.
• Implements software in prototyping and commercial product development environments.
• Collaborates with other members of a project team to meet defined scientific and technical goals/requirements.
• Identifies and documents Intellectual Property opportunities for technology and applications. Presents results to project partners, collaboration partners within the Roche group, customers, and at scientific conferences.
• Other duties may be assigned by management in the pursuit of the operational goals of the group.

Who You Are

• Education: MSc students OR PhD students (highly preferred).
• Preferred majors: Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Electrical/Biomedical Engineering or any related STEM field.
• Actively conducting research in the following areas: machine learning and deep learning.
• Must have at least two years of experience in conducting research, writing peer-reviewed publications, and software development.
• Strong algorithmic problem solving and software development skills.
• Strong coding skills in Python, Pytorch, or Tensorflow.
• Must have a \xe2\x89\xa5 3.0 GPA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with domain adaptation & generalization techniques (not required, but highly desirable).
• Experience with Machine learning / Deep learning (used in NGS context) is a plus.
• Experience with generative models is a plus.
• Hands-on experience using a workflow management system such as Nextflow or Snakemake, using Docker and cloud computation resources and storage.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to think unconventionally to derive creative and innovative solutions.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with your mentor and others in Roche on research projects.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-group, and cross-culture collaboration skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to adjust to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Result-oriented individual that thrives in collaborative multi-disciplinary teams. Excels at incorporating feedback in a professional manner.
• Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications in high-impact journals or at top ML conferences (ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, AISTATS, CVPR, ICCV, etc.).
• Participation in student organizations and/or other leadership experience preferred.

Responsabilit\xc3\xa9s

• Analyser la documentation dans le secteur de l\xe2\x80\x99adaptation de domaine.
• Mettre en \xc5\x93uvre ou modifier des algorithmes existants pour analyser les donn\xc3\xa9es issues du s\xc3\xa9quen\xc3\xa7age de nouvelle g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9ration du g\xc3\xa9nome.
• Mettre en \xc5\x93uvre des logiciels dans des milieux de prototypage et de d\xc3\xa9veloppement de produits commerciaux.
• Collaborer avec les autres membres d\xe2\x80\x99une \xc3\xa9quipe de projet pour atteindre les objectifs et les exigences scientifiques et techniques d\xc3\xa9finis.
• D\xc3\xa9terminer et documenter les possibilit\xc3\xa9s de propri\xc3\xa9t\xc3\xa9 intellectuelle pour les technologies et les applications. Pr\xc3\xa9senter les r\xc3\xa9sultats aux partenaires du projet, aux partenaires de collaboration au sein du groupe Roche, aux clients et lors de conf\xc3\xa9rences scientifiques.
• D\xe2\x80\x99autres t\xc3\xa2ches peuvent \xc3\xaatre confi\xc3\xa9es par la direction dans le cadre de la poursuite des objectifs op\xc3\xa9rationnels du groupe.

Profil

• Formation : \xc3\xa9tudiants en ma\xc3\xaetrise \xc3\xa8s sciences ou en doctorat (tr\xc3\xa8s souhaitable).
• Sp\xc3\xa9cialisations privil\xc3\xa9gi\xc3\xa9es : informatique, statistiques, bio-informatique, biologie informatique, g\xc3\xa9nie \xc3\xa9lectrique/biom\xc3\xa9dical ou tout autre domaine STIM connexe.
• Recherche active dans les domaines suivants : apprentissage automatique et apprentissage profond.
• Minimum de deux ann\xc3\xa9es d\xe2\x80\x99exp\xc3\xa9rience dans la conduite de recherches, la r\xc3\xa9daction de publications \xc3\xa9valu\xc3\xa9es par des pairs et le d\xc3\xa9veloppement de logiciels.
• Solides comp\xc3\xa9tences en r\xc3\xa9solution de probl\xc3\xa8mes algorithmiques et en d\xc3\xa9veloppement de logiciels.
• Solides comp\xc3\xa9tences en codage dans les langages Python, Pytorch ou Tensorflow.
• Moyenne g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9rale de \xe2\x89\xa5 3,0.

Aptitudes privil\xc3\xa9gi\xc3\xa9es

• Connaissance des techniques d\xe2\x80\x99adaptation et de g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9ralisation de domaine (non obligatoire, mais tr\xc3\xa8s souhaitable).
• Exp\xc3\xa9rience dans l\xe2\x80\x99apprentissage automatique et l\xe2\x80\x99apprentissage profond (utilis\xc3\xa9 dans le contexte du s\xc3\xa9quen\xc3\xa7age de nouvelle g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9ration du g\xc3\xa9nome), un atout.
