Supervision of all activities in the Biochemistry laboratory.
The Biochemistry Manager is responsible for the quality and standards of services provided in the CReATe Fertility Centre's Biochemistry Laboratory.
Supervise and evaluate laboratory personnel performance.
Perform job responsibilities for Medical Technologist if needed.
Perform all pre-analytic, and post analytic phases of testing in the laboratory if needed.
Prepare job descriptions of laboratory staff.
Evaluate, select and recommend in the acquisition of new equipment.
Write and review procedure manuals. Develop and maintain up-to-date SOPs for all laboratory aspects to ensure quality and consistency.
Develop quality control and quality assurance program.
Design, research, review and write format for laboratory manuals.
Maintain inventory and supplies.
Suggest cost-effective laboratory procedures or protocols.
Implement changes in response to technology and laboratory procedures.
Identify and suggest standards of practice.
Maintain adherence to all federal, provincial, and regulatory agency guidelines for laboratory operations.
Evaluate, recommend staffing needs to Medical Director and Clinic Manager and assist in the process of hiring new staff.
Resolve technical difficulties that arise within the laboratory, ensuring continued productivity and effectiveness.
Prepare and evaluate the schedules of staff to meet the needs of the clinic.
Oversee assignment of laboratory staff to various tasks.
Organize laboratory staff meetings and chair meetings.
Oversee the training of new laboratory staff and ensure that skills of technicians/technologists are upgraded as needed.
Ensure that recommendations/policy changes are brought to entire organization group and implemented accordingly.
Assist in the decision making with Clinic Manager/Medical Director on the promotion of laboratory technician.
Ensure quality and timeliness of patient test results by investigating problems involving specimen collection, result reporting and turnaround time.
Evaluate and calculate quality control statistics to assess accuracy, reproducibility and validity of current laboratory methods.
Analyses laboratory computer applications to manage data.
Evaluate quality control measures and institute corrective action.
Oversee preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs of laboratory equipment and ensure proper functioning.
Operate and calibrate laboratory instruments.
Evaluate and validate new methods.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology.
CMLTO Certified.
Minimum of 5 years' relevant laboratory experience, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
Proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques and familiar with laboratory information system (LIS) and data analysis.
Several years of experience in the operation and maintenance of laboratory analyzers.
Over 5 years of laboratory management experience with strong leadership skills, team building, mentoring and the ability to manage staff and operations.
Familiarity with relevant regulatory bodies.
Ability to effectively solve problems and manage conflicts within the lab environment.
Strong organizational skills.
