Description:

This course presents an overview of the microbial world and introduces the students, in more detail, to the physiological, cellular and molecular aspects of bacteria. The laboratories illustrate principles and provide training in basic microbiological techniques essential to microbiology and to any field where recombinant DNA technology is used.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates should be near completion of their Ph.D. Candidates should have experience in teaching microbiology with a laboratory component. The successful candidate will have significant experience in basic laboratory techniques used in microbiology, cell biology and molecular biology and experience in overseeing laboratory sessions in microbiology.


Previous experience is the more relevant criterion than the need to acquire experience in respect of this posted position.

Duties

Specific duties include designing and delivering lectures, guiding student discussions, writing the lecture exams midterms and final and final lab exam (short answer and short essay), editing and posting weekly TA notes, liaison with teaching technician, marking, running laboratory review and ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory and miscellaneous clerical tasks. The successful candidate must be available to be on campus during the running of the laboratories that run all day Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.



Please note all course elements are in person at the UTSC campus. There are no hybrid options in the Department of Biological Sciences at UTSC for lectures, tutorials, laboratories or exams.
