Job Summary
Regional Aquatic Ecologist
Biologist R27 An excellent senior opportunity for a dedicated Professional Biologist

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works in partnership with Indigenous governments to modernize land use planning with community, stakeholder, and public input including operating and expanding Indigenous forums and working with First Nations on collaborative stewardship of natural resources and monitoring of cumulative effects. The Regional Aquatic Ecologist is a technical specialist position that supports regional planning tables and leads aquatic ecosystems initiatives related to watershed management, habitat designations, restoration projects, species at risk recovery and environmental flow needs. Job Requirements: Education and Designation
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or higher in biological sciences or related field and a minimum of 6 years of related experience**, or
  • An equivalent combination of education and related experience** may be considered.
  • Registered (or immediately eligible*) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology. Note: Immediately eligible* is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the CAB within six months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.
**Related experience:
  • Experience in leading project design and delivery, analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime related to aquatic ecosystems management.
  • Experience assessing and monitoring aquatic natural resources.

Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following:
  • Completion of Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in relevant field of expertise
  • Advanced scientific experience in a specialty area: watershed management, hydrology, environmental flow needs and/or aquatic habitat restoration
  • Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy.
  • Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
