Salary Range: $60,900 - $69,500

This Opportunity





The Vancouver office of Smith + Andersen is seeking a BIM Technician. The BIM Technician is discipline specific and has working knowledge of the Autodesk Revit building information modelling platform. The BIM Technician works under the direct supervision of a project engineer/designer. Using Revit, the BIM Technician prepares drawing packages including plans, layouts, schematics and detailed scale drawings.

What You'll Do


Model and/or design for a single discipline. Prepares drawing packages, including plans, layouts, schematics, and detailed scale drawings using drawings and files and the S+A Prototype standard drawing setup at the onset of a project. Produce and/or modify a BIM (Building Information Model) from sketches, mark-ups and/or designs as required by the project team to suit design requirements, consultant changes, scope changes and/or general updates. Review models against markups to ensure accuracy of work in the three-dimensional model and resultant two-dimensional drawings. Collaborate/communicate with other disciplines' design changes and model challenges. Populate and maintain the parametric database within a model as needed to meet design requirements. Identify and discuss interferences or space issues with the project team for resolution and change implementation. This may include three-dimensional analysis using Revit or other software such as Navisworks. Prepare submissions for issuance, plotting and archives. Control and maintain models in an organized manner in the appropriate project directory system, as per company standards. Adhere to office BIM standards and prototype standards, including the project BIM Execution Plan, Level of Development matrix Layout pipes, ductwork, lighting, cable tray, or conduits, and identify clashes. When required, produce schematic drawings and identify sizing requirements. Reviews layouts of lighting services for interferences with major building elements such as structure, ceilings, walls, etc. Generates Navisworks models. Any other BIM tasks required to assist in the completion of working drawings.



Who You Are


At least one year working experience in BIM is required. College diploma in Architecture; or a related field with relevant work experience. AutoCAD knowledge would be considered an asset. Working knowledge of structural and architectural, models to appreciate space limitations and interferences. Knowledge of the industry installation practices for lighting systems so that what is created in BIM is a close representation to what a contractor can build on site would be considered an asset. Familiar with building sector services such as plumbing systems, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting, power and systems and communications. Good written and oral communication skills; able to communicate with the design team and external BIM teams or clients. Ability to work in an environment driven by project deadlines. Highly motivated with an attention to detail and an ability to accept direction. Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
