Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Underwriting, the Bilingual Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and approving mortgage insurance applications.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and approve applications for residential mortgage insurance according to Sagen guidelines and policies.
• Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service.
• Manage underwriting/service process for key lender accounts.
• Maintain up to date knowledge of Sagen policies and products.
• Provide underwriting and credit expertise for customers, and field staff.
• Handle customer service inquiries, develop strong customer relationships and promote the company\'s products.
• Assist in regional/company/quality projects.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and French.
• Minimum of 4 years progressive experience in mortgage loan underwriting.
• In-depth knowledge of credit and mortgage loan underwriting practices.
• Knowledge of the risk analysis approach and the residential appraisal process (ability to understand and interpret appraisal reports).
• Strong math skills and the ability to underwrite self-employed borrowers through analysis of tax returns.
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation and negotiation/selling skills.
• Must be a self-starter and results oriented.
• Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment.
• Ability to make decisions under pressure while adhering to underwriting guidelines.
• Ability to work shifts within extended hours of operation.
