About the role
The Senior Manager, Platform Engineering leads a team of systems development and maintenance professionals that builds and maintains the platforms supporting our product/application teams. This role is critical in creating an efficient and seamless developer experience and help optimize product delivery by reducing product teams cognitive load.What you will do:
  • Set the strategic direction for the platforms engineering team and actively manages its roadmap.
  • Engage with the product teams to understand their needs and then defining, delivering, and marketing platforms that maximizes efficient delivery of customer value by the product teams.
  • Helps product teams navigate complex architecture, tooling and services offering.
  • Monitor and refine self-service platforms that improve developer experience, delivery speed and process agility.
  • Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of the platforms.
  • Responsible for the implementation of comprehensive suites of purchased software and internally developed applications.
  • Manage the seamless integration of internal resources and external partner resources to create a seamless one team approach/experience.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and expertise on technology and related services, to several IT teams and departments.
What you should have:
  • A bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software engineering or related field. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in the provision of technology solutions.
  • Three (3) years in leadership experience with direct supervision.
  • Experience in creating and managing a platform engineering practice to contribute to the efficiency of the software developers and software engineering specialists part of product teams.
  • Experience with agile delivery approaches (ex. Scrum, Kanban, Safe, etc.) and tools (ex. Microsoft Azure DevOps).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiating skills with excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills. Experience in articulating new ideas and concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences in both official languages (French and English).
  • Proven experience and understanding of relevant tools, platforms and modern system development life cycle (e.g., continuous integration and deployment, automated testing, TDD, DevSecOps, etc.), with an ability to grasp and understand new technologies.
It would be great if you also had:
  • Experience with the full range of Microsoft development tools and platform technologies, with experience in Azure being a strong asset. Experience in other PaaS based solutions will be considered.
  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, Infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), SOA, APIs, open data, microservices, event-driven architecture and predictive analytics.
