Under the supervision of the Dean, the First Nations, Metis and Inuit (FNMI) Community Relations Coordinator leads and supports the development, operational implementation, and delivery of FNMI Indigenous initiatives at Campus Saint-Jean, advancing the objectives outlined in the University of Alberta's Indigenous Strategic Plan, "Weaving Past, Present, and Future." This role provides strategic advice and leadership to the Dean and the executive team on Indigenous issues, including cultural programming, student engagement, academic support, and strengthening community relationships. The incumbent also collaborates with university partners to ensure alignment with institutional priorities related to truth and reconciliation, equity, and inclusion.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Overseeing the FNMI Indigenous strategic planning at Campus Saint-Jean and monitoring progress against key performance indicators aligned with the objectives of the institutional Indigenous strategic plan.
• Advising the Dean on Indigenous affairs, reparations, truth and reconciliation projects, and operational processes to ensure their alignment with institutional priorities.
• Leading efforts to secure funding from various government sources to support FNMI Indigenous projects and initiatives.
• Maintain and develop relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and partners to strengthen Indigenous engagement and support at Campus Saint-Jean.
• Plan and implement Indigenous cultural events and ceremonies, offer teachings, and manage Indigenous spaces on campus.
• Provide guidance and support to Indigenous students, including recruitment, outreach, and student services orientation.
• Support the integration of Indigenous knowledge and perspectives into academic programs and research ethics.
• Represent Campus Saint-Jean on provincial, community, and academic Indigenous committees.

Qualifications:

• Undergraduate degree in Indigenous studies, community development, human services, or a related field.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain respectful relationships.
• Formal training (e.g., Yellowhead Tribal College, U of A Continuing Education) or equivalent practical experience in Indigenous community relations is an asset.
• Lived experience with Indigenous knowledge and ways of being, with a solid understanding of the history, experiences, and contemporary realities of Indigenous peoples in Canada.
• Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, including knowledge of and respect for cultural protocols, practices, and traditions.
• Acceptance of and proven experience with FNMI (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) communities; candidates must provide references from respected members of these communities.
• Knowledge of Indigenous languages, governance structures, or traditional knowledge systems is an asset.
• Experience contributing to or implementing an Indigenous strategic plan is an asset.
• Proven ability to design and deliver effective presentations.
• Excellent project management and issue resolution skills, with the ability to lead initiatives from conception to completion.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and common software applications.
• Initiative, sense of responsibility, and commitment to achieving measurable results.
• Commitment to fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and respect in professional relationships.
