The Ottawa office has an opening for a full-time Bilingual Materials Field Technician/Technologist. We are looking for the best and the brightest candidate to fill this role; the reward is a competitive salary (reviewed annually) and benefits package. Duties and responsibilities for this position will include:
Predominantly test day to day samples on construction sites, for the private sector and/or government contracts.
Provide field testing and inspection services for various projects including compaction testing and concrete sampling and testing.
Liaise with contractors, clients, and project managers
Compile and tabulate technical data for use in technical reports.
Conduct geotechnical field testing on soil, asphalt, concrete, and aggregates.
Conduct reinforcing steel inspections
Conduct equipment calibration and maintenance.
Field quality control and quality assurance of construction materials.
Materials sampling.
Learn to effectively organize assigned daily tasks based on workflow and due dates.
Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will be relied upon to deliver materials inspection and testing services to various professional staff. A motivation to provide high quality customer service is essential to the role. In addition, the candidate should have the following qualifications and skills:
3 + years of experience in a similar role in construction
Experienced performing field density testing of asphalt and aggregates
Knowledge of soil inspections and bearing capacities
Knowledge of road construction
Experienced in housing and commercial developments
Experienced with Municipal or Provincial projects
Experienced with reviewing construction drawings
Candidate must have a relevant college diploma and /or significant work experience related to materials laboratory testing.
Preferably CCIL, ACI certified (for field concrete).
CET Certification is also considered an asset.
Knowledgeable and comfortable with standards codes such as ASTM, LS, CSA, OPSS etc...
Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
Ability to work well with others and independently.
Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills.
Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's license and have access to a vehicle with valid registration and insurance.

Physical Requirements:
Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to occasionally lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
