This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This position is part-time and has an initial appointment of 4 months. The salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement.

Under the authority of the Associate Dean, the person selected for this position will have the following tasks:

Provide instruction to undergraduate and graduate students Develop the content of assigned courses and be responsible for the design of these courses, including teaching methodology Ensure reasonable availability for student consultation during and outside of class hours Contribute to the content of new student orientation activities Participate in scholarly teaching by staying current and competent in course content and design and instructor performance Engage in administrative tasks related to teaching Attend orientations, faculty meetings, course-related meetings, and other teaching-related activities Submit the course syllabus to the administration within the prescribed deadlines Submit a report to the Senior Associate Dean at the end of the semester Other clearly defined teaching activities, as applicable, assigned and agreed upon at the time of appointment or during subsequent annual assignments Contribute to the content of new student orientation activities Ability to teach the following courses in French:


MATHQ 101 - Calcul elementaire II (Section LEC EB01)


Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 09:30 - 10:20

Integration techniques and applications of integral calculus: calculation of lengths, areas, volumes and masses, improper integrals, ordinary differential equations of order one; separable, linear, Euler's method, applications. Infinite series, Taylor series, power series and convergence criterion of a series. Polar, rectangular, spherical and cylindrical coordinates in three-dimensional space, parametric curves in the plane and space. Volume and area of a surface of revolution. Prerequisite: MATHQ 100. Note(s): (1) This course is not open to students with or applying for credit for MATHQ 115, MATH 118, 146 or SCI 100. (2) This course is normally reserved for students in the Faculty of Engineering. (3) Students in the Faculty of Engineering taking this course will earn 3.5 credits.


MATHQ 102 - Algebre lineaire appliquee (Section LEC EB01)


Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 08:30 - 09:20

Vectors and matrices; solution of linear equations; equations of lines and planes; determinants; matrix algebra; GramSchmidt orthogonality and applications; eigenvalues, eigenvectors and applications; complex numbers. Prerequisite or concurrent: MATHQ 100. Note(s): (1) This course is not open to students with or applying for credit for MATHQ 120, 125, MATH 125 or 127. (2) This course is normally reserved for students in the Faculty of Engineering. (3) Students in the Faculty of Engineering taking this course will earn 3.5 credits.


MATHQ 115 - Calcul elementaire II (Section LEB B01)


Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 11:30 - 12:20

Integration techniques and applications of integration. Improper integrals. Differential equations and mathematical modeling. Partial derivatives. Applications in the context of the life sciences or the physical sciences, or business and economics. Prerequisite(s): One of MATHQ or MATH 100, 113, 114, 117, 134, 144 or 154. Note: This course is not open to students with or applying for credit for MATHQ or MATH 101, 115, 118, 136, 145, 156 or SCI 100.


MATHQ 334 - Introduction aux equations differentielles (Section LEC B01)


Mondays Wednesdays Fridays 10:30 - 11:20

First-order equations, higher-order linear equations. Solution by power series. Laplace transform methods. Introduction to special functions. Introduction to linear systems. Prerequisite(s): One of MATH/MATHQ 102, MATH/MATHQ 125, or MATH 127, and one of MATH 209, MATH/MATHQ 214, or MATH 217. Note: This course is not open to students with or applying for credit for MATH 201, MATH 336, or MA PH 251. Holding a PhD in mathematics or a related field (or equivalent experience). Demonstrated effective and engaging undergraduate teaching ability. Potential or existing active research program with growth prospects. Dedication to student success and mentoring. Initiative, leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills. Proficiency in French and English, especially for understanding university policies. Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in accordance with university strategic plans.
