Job Description


Reporting to the Coordinator of Field Operations the Bicycle Recovery Officer is responsible for the collection, transporting, storage, and release or auction of derelict, abandoned and/or found bicycles. As the Biciycle Recovery Officer you will:

  • Collects derelict, abandoned and/or found bicycles.
  • Document, clean and place in storage derelict, abandoned and/or found bicycles.
  • Maintains and updates all necessary collection records and notifies Police of all bicycle collections which they did not initiate.
  • Gathers and records identifying information on all bicycles collected to enable a cataloguing of the inventory.
  • Updates and maintains stolen bicycle reports from Police, the general public, and insurance companies.
  • Cross matches and references bicycles collected with the stolen/missing bicycles file to determine bicycle owners where possible.
  • Notifies identified owners, releases bicycles to owners, escorts and supervises people attending compound to search through those collected, answers telephone enquiries.
  • Prepares old stock of bicycles for auction, including stamping serial numbers.
  • Transports or arranges for transport of old stock to auction site, and supervises the auction in progress.
  • Disposes of unclaimed and unsold bicycle frames and bicycles.
  • Perform minor maintenance as required and work with other agencies to facilitate repair to derelict, abandoned and/or found bicycles.
  • Provide recommendations on how to improve inventory control or customer service processes.
  • Performs other duties compatible with the position as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • Grade X or equivalent.
  • Valid Province of Manitoba Class 5 Driver\'s License.
  • Ability to work effectively under minimum supervision.
  • Skill and ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other civic personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain recordkeeping and filing systems.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
  • A good knowledge of the City\'s streets and Districts.
Conditions of employment:
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver\'s License. The successful applicant is required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy.
  • Obtain CSA approved steel toed boots.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
