Bi Developer (18 Month Contract)

Job Description


The Business Transformation team at Munich Re is responsible for rethinking and reshaping the way we look at our core business and we are seeking a BI Developer to join our team. As a member of our Data and BI team you will be working on data delivery, transformation, and BI analytics for Munich Re Life and Health by working collaboratively across a variety of technical and business teams, and participating in requirements gathering sessions with the business stakeholders.

**The role will be based out of our downtown Toronto office and is an 18-month contract**

THE ROLE:

This position includes a variety of objectives and responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Working with other data engineers, data ingestion specialists, and experts across the company to consolidate methods and tool standards where practical
  • Developing data models for various business data subject areas
  • Constructing ETL / ELT packages for data transformation and integration between various business applications or to the data warehouse
  • Configuring unit tests that will validate and assure quality of business data processes, ensure testing plans are documented and executed effectively
  • Providing data engineering support to assigned project and addressing tasks or bugs related to data issues
  • Creating complex and comprehensive BI reporting packages and dashboards utilizing data infrastructure, localized datamarts, and external data sources
  • Validating the quality and integrity of the data included in the reporting packages and dashboards
  • Developing meaningful and insightful commentary on new and existing reporting packages
  • Supporting the execution the BT roadmap as an input into Munich Re\'s overall Digital Strategy
  • Working independently and with teams on complex data engineering problems to directly support and deliver on strategic data initiatives
  • Translating functional and technical requirements into detailed design and robust deliverables
  • Documenting and communicating standard methods and tools used
  • Adhering to the business and data architecture guidelines for data patterns and security
  • Responsible for sourcing and provisioning data in the data warehouse from on premise or cloud sources
  • Liaising with business stakeholders in gathering data requirement for projects
  • Ensuring timely delivery and meeting project timelines by automating development and deployment tasks where applicable
KEY CAPABILITIES:
  • Ability to provide oral, written, and presentation skills necessary to enable adoption of data solution across technical and business audiences
  • Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express technical concepts in terms understandable by the business, and requirements and implications in terms understandable to fellow technical experts
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and conflict management skills; must be able to work effectively in a small collaborative team
  • Strong time and project management skills with the ability to adapt to changing prioritizations
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in data management, computer science, information technology, or related discipline
  • 5+ yrs SQL Server skills including SWL objects development, performance tuning, data analysis, and integration
  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSRS, SSAS, Power BI)
  • 3+ years of experience in data management / data engineering / data architecture
  • Technical skillset including a mix/combination of the following:
  • Code Management and CI/CD tools
  • Scripting languages: PowerShell, Python, etc
  • Data Manipulation languages: SQL, PLSQL, Python, etc
  • BI Development tools : PowerBI, DAX, PowerAutomate, etc
  • Data Integration tools: SSIS, Informatica, ADF, etc
  • Master Data Management tools: Informatica MDM, MDS, Profisee, etc
Insurance or Reinsurance industry experience is an asset
