Bench Science Research Coordinator, Surgery
Primary Purpose: The Bench Science Research Coordinator provides specialized administrative and operational support to researchers in the Department of Surgery, College of Medicine. The position will proficiently assist the Principal Investigators (PIs) and their research team by managing compliance documentation (Animal Use Protocols (AUPs), Biosafety permits, etc.), coordinating research activities, providing purchasing assistance, facilitating onboarding and providing training.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Department of Surgery Finance and Admin Manager, the Basic Science Research Coordinator works independently and collaboratively with PI's, building lab managers, biosafety officers, animal ethics office staff, and others employed in the research environment. The position is responsible for coordinating animal studies within the PI's research programs, which includes preparing AUPs submissions and annual renewals, applying for and keeping up to date Biosafety permits and biosafety plans, purchasing equipment, onboarding new staff/students, providing training on equipment or software, etc. The incumbent must be capable of working with minimal supervision, and needs to be able to instruct others on how to use research tools like Qreserve, RedCap, Photoshop, ImageJ, StatsDirect (other stats software), Datastore, etc. The ability to effectively work through complex issues and concerns with moderate stress resulting from work pressure is necessary. Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required. The ability to work well as a team member is critical to the role.
