Job Summary

The Bench Carpenter is responsible for performing all types of construction work, from carpentry to fabrication of cabinets or concrete pouring. The incumbent is also called on to perform various tasks, including the assembly of modular workstations. The role is required to respond to emergencies and may have to work with other construction trades, as needed. Additional tasks include carry out carpentry work for several days or weeks without having to fabricate any cabinets or pour any concrete.

Major Responsibilities

\xc2\xb7 Build, install, maintain and repair structures

\xc2\xb7 Read and interpret plans and drawings

\xc2\xb7 Measure, calculate and cut material, among other things

\xc2\xb7 Perform various intermittent duties such as installing flooring (e.g. carpet and vinyl tiles)

\xc2\xb7 Pour concrete, do construction work with drywall, repair ceilings and raised flooring

Working Conditions

\xc2\xb7 The role is performed in a combination of indoor or outdoor environment, in various types of weather conditions

\xc2\xb7 The role is required to wear proper safety attire (e.g. eyeglasses, safety boots, hard hat, vest with reflective stripes, respirator, or hearing protection and harnesses)

\xc2\xb7 Must be able to work at heights, on occasion and handle loads of over 44 lbs (20 kg)

\xc2\xb7 Must have an adequate toolkit containing the necessary tools to perform their tasks

Requirements

\xc2\xb7 CCQ Carpenter-Joiner certification

\xc2\xb7 Ability to plan and perform all the activities related to fabrication and pouring of reinforced concrete for repair and maintenance of concrete structures

\xc2\xb7 Capacity to understand and read detailed plans and sketches, prepare supply orders for various types of repair or maintenance work

\xc2\xb7 Valid Driver\'s License

\xc2\xb7 Communicates with impact

\xc2\xb7 Collaborates with others and shares information

\xc2\xb7 Must have good hand-eye coordination, visual and auditory acuity

\xc2\xb7 Must successfully pass a written exam on plan reading

  • Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)*
*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered as an asset

Training

The incumbent is not required to attend any training.

This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement
