Job Summary

The Behavioural Consultant is a member of a family-centered, multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive services to children and youth with support needs and their families. The Behavioural Consultant works directly with families, children and youth and uses a predominantly consultative model, utilizing parent coaching and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Behavioural Consultant also provides assessment, intervention and support plans and direction to Support Workers.

Qualifications

:

Degree related to Special Education. Master's degree in a relevant field is preferred. Experience assisting in the design, implementation, and monitoring of individualized evidencebased intervention programs for children and youth. Experience training and supervising behaviour support staff. Experience parent and caregiver coaching/training. Experience creating/leading assessments with various modalities related to the need for behaviour intervention. Experience leading functional assessments and designing support plans with families, schools, other professionals and/or community programs. Demonstrates strong skills in working as a collaborative team member and understanding the strengths of multidisciplinary team philosophy. Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment. Experience in working with children, youth and families. Sound culturally safe, trauma-informed practice skills. Knowledge of appropriate community, regional and provincial resources for children/youth and their families. Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of strengths-based family systems and attachment-based support, community resources. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to self-reflect regarding practice. Group facilitation and organizational skills.
