POSITION SUMMARY:
The Behaviour Analyst - Forensics is primarily responsible for collaborating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of specialized care plans for individuals under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board or detained under the Criminal Code of Canada, cared for by the Forensic Psychiatry Program who have complex behavioural issues.
The Behaviour Analyst will work within a recovery-based model of care to provide time-limited, in-patient behaviour-analytic services to individuals with challenging or aggressive behaviours related to their mental health diagnosis (i.e., schizophrenia), as well as individuals with a dual diagnosis (i.e., developmental disabilities and mental health needs). The Behaviour Analyst will collaborate with the various disciplines within the program in the development of integrated care plans and recommendations in accordance with best practice (evidence-based) approaches in working with challenging clients living with mental illness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree required in Applied Behaviour Analysis or Relevant Field of Study that supports College Registration Requirements
Completed a verified course sequence in Applied Behaviour Analysis required
Certificate of Registration for a Behaviour Analyst Authorizing Supervised or Autonomous Practice, College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts required
First Aid, CPR, CPI, GPA, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention required
Membership with Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis preferred
Minimum one year related clinical experience in Behaviour Analysis and Forensic Psychiatry required
Minimum 2 years experience providing behaviour-analytic services to individuals with serious mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or dual diagnosis
Experience working with adults with challenging and aggressive behaviours is required
Experience working with the Forensic population is preferred
Current knowledge and skills regarding the purpose and nature of behavioural assessments and behaviour support plans
Demonstrates the ability to strategize and provide input into the development, implementation, and evaluation of behaviour support plans and skill acquisition plans
Demonstrates an understanding of key risk factors in terms of patient behaviours within a Forensic environment
Ability to work as an effective member of an inter-disciplinary team
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, disciplines, and community partners
Exercises initiative and good clinical judgment, with the ability to multi-task. Demonstrates excellent problem-solving abilities
Knowledge of behavioural techniques and crisis intervention and prevention
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Electronic Health Record(s)
Knowledge of community resources related to transition planning is an asset
Demonstrates knowledge of provincial and federal legislation including the Ontario Review Board and the Criminal Code of Canada
Demonstrated knowledge of risk assessment tools including the eHARM, AIS, and START plan
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legal documentation specific to Forensic Psychiatry
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to implement evidence-based best practice strategies relevant to patient population and clinical setting
Able to work under pressure, prioritize workload and meet deadlines
Willingness and ability to continue to improve professional competence and knowledge
Acts as a supervisor to placement students and provides guidance and mentorship to new staff
Engage in research to help enhance the body of knowledge of Behaviour Analysis and Forensic Psychiatry Program
