Summary:





Bella Bella Community School Society is seeking a compassionate and skilled Behaviour Specialist to join our K4-12 student services team. The successful candidate will provide proactive, culturally informed, and trauma-sensitive behavioural support to students, while working collaboratively with teachers, education assistants, counsellors, and families. This position plays a vital role in promoting inclusive education, student regulation, and social-emotional growth. The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, professionalism, and a commitment to the Heiltsuk community's values of respect, responsibility, and relationship.


Duties and Responsibilities:



Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) and develop Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs). Implement individualized and school-wide behavioural supports that promote regulation, belonging, and safety. Coach and support staff in behaviour intervention strategies, co-regulation, and classroom management. Model trauma-informed, restorative, and relationship-based practices. Collaborate with classroom teachers, education assistants, and administrators to ensure consistent behavioural expectations. Provide direct support to students demonstrating high behavioural or emotional needs. Participate in the development and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Safety Plans. Track and analyze behaviour data to monitor progress and adjust supports as needed. Deliver professional learning sessions for staff on topics such as regulation, sensory strategies, and de-escalation. Engage families in collaborative problem-solving and share strategies to support consistency between home and school. Contribute to the creation of a safe, positive, and culturally responsive school climate. Other related duties as assigned within the same scope and level.

Required Skills and Abilities:



In-depth understanding of child and youth development, behavioural science, and trauma-informed practice. Ability to conduct assessments and design effective, individualized intervention plans. Strong collaboration and coaching skills to support classroom staff and education assistants. Capacity to remain calm, patient, and professional in crisis or high-stress situations. Knowledge of neurodiversity, including ASD, ADHD, and FASD. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on inclusion and empathy. Cultural humility and willingness to learn about and integrate Heiltsuk culture, Gvilas (values), and community practices. Familiarity with PBIS (Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports), restorative practices, and regulation frameworks (e.g., Zones of Regulation). Proficient in documentation and case management using digital tools such as Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Flexibility to adapt strategies to meet diverse classroom and community contexts.as IXL, to support student learning and track progress.
