The Program

Specialized short-term behavior interventions for adults and children who exhibit behaviors of concern and the caregivers who support them.

The Position

This is a hybrid work arrangement, as follows:

50% of time - travel to work at various WJS administration and program sites within more than one geographic area and may include Edmonton, Edson, Whitecourt, Slave Lake and Fort McMurray. Related travel expenses will be reimbursed.

50% of time - Case management and administrative tasks completed from the WJS Edmonton office, located one block north of the downtown MacEwan University.

In this consultative role, you must work in an integrative team setting, without direct supervision; strong organizational, time management, interpersonal communication and collaboration skills will ensure your success.

In Your Role You Will

  • Complete functional assessments and develop behaviour support plans.
  • Complete on site observations, and provide modeling, teaching, and/or support in the home or community.
  • Develop and deliver training for caregivers and/or team members in behavioural intervention approaches and procedures (Ex. Proactive Behavior Strategies, Restrictive Procedures, Crisis Assessment and Response, Abuse Prevention, Restrictive Procedures, etc.)
  • Provide incident evaluation, response and debriefing supports
  • Adhere to PBS best practices, CET accreditation standards, and evidence-based practices
  • Participate in Behaviour Review Committees and other committees/meetings as required.
  • Attend, participate and contribute to team meetings

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
  • Ideally, candidates have experience with Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), completing Comprehensive Functional Assessments, creating, writing and implementation of Positive Behavioural Support Plans, and experience with persons experiencing behavioural, social and emotional disorders.
  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, Behavioural Science, Special Needs or related field.
  • 50% travel within the consultation area
  • Class 5 driver license, suitable driver abstract and reliable vehicle
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and/or routine and provide creative solutions
  • Strong personal commitment to working with persons with developmental disabilities, dual diagnosis, acquired brain injury, FASD and challenging behaviours.
  • Group facilitation/training/teaching skills a must
  • Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA), Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS), Triple P certification an asset.
