Established in 1974, the Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) is a multi-service not-for-profit agency providing a range of programs for children, youth and young adults with developmental delays and disabilities. We are the only agency in our community to provide these programs and we are proud of our now over 50-year history of service to children, families and the community.

Job Summary:

Provide Behavioural Consultation for families and caregivers with children and youth with support needs to address behaviours that challenge individuals and families through completing comprehensive functional assessments, developing Positive Behaviour Support Plans, and providing a range of support, training, and consultation services.

Utilize a community-based, family centered outreach service delivery approach to build the child's skills, parent's skills, and family quality of life in home, school, social and community settings.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree and current certification as a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst.

Minimum of two years' previous experience working as a Behavioural Consultant with children and youth with support needs.

Minimum of two years' experience working in a family-centered service delivery model and working within a team context.

Excellent communication and report-writing skills Ability to work independently and as a team member Ability to manage time and work load effectively Ability to maintain confidentiality Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position Vehicle that meets ICBC annual inspection standards, and valid BC Driver's License
Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical:

1. Using principles of applied behavioural analysis (ABA) to provide behavioural consultation, complete comprehensive assessments, and develop and implement positive behavioural support plans for referred children, youth, and families.

2. Complete a comprehensive assessment for each child or youth including a functional behavioural assessment to decrease and eliminate challenging and problem behaviours; incorporate a developmental approach which considers how the child develops including physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and familial functioning.

3. Develop and implement individualized behavioural assessment and intervention (Positive Behaviour Support) plans. Consult and collaborate with the child/youth, family/caregivers, teachers or school support staff and other involved health care and social service professionals. Incorporate the child/youth and family's interests, abilities, strengths, needs, and preferences. Include the six basic skill domains of academic, communication, social/play skills, emotional/self regulation, motor/sensory functioning, and independence/life skills. Establish short and long-term goals, intervention, and training strategies.

4. Utilize a range of strategies to impart knowledge, improve skills and build awareness of resources with children, youth and families. Consider and support improved functioning, as per the child/youth and family needs and preferences in the domains of health, safety, education, emotional, physical, social, leisure, spiritual, cultural, inter-personal relationships and other child specific or family needs.

5. Deliver services on an outreach basis within family, the home and/or in community settings.

6. Provide regular and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

7. Maintain individual files; prepare and submit reports as required.

8. Perform other duties as assigned.
