Position Summary




Above and Beyond Care Services Inc. is seeking a

proactive and experienced Behavioral Technician

to join our compassionate and dynamic team. The Behavioral Technician plays a vital role in transforming lives through specialized behavioral support services that empower individuals with autism spectrum disorder, developmental disabilities, and behavioral health needs to achieve greater independence and an improved quality of life.


This position works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including the Client Care Team, Nursing Staff, Operations Team, and external health professionals, to ensure the delivery of comprehensive, individualized care.


Services are provided across diverse settings, including private residences and community homes, requiring schedule flexibility with variable hours -- including evenings and weekends as needed to meet client needs.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive practices that respect and honor each individual's unique journey.

Key Responsibilities:



Direct Service Delivery & Intervention



Execute customized behavioral intervention strategies and support plans including risk assessment, functional assessments, Behavioural Support Plans (BSPs) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals with accuracy as directed by supervising clinicians and client care team Utilize evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques to support skill acquisition and reduce challenging behaviors Conduct therapeutic sessions for individuals and groups in various settings including homes, schools, and community locations Support clients in developing essential life competencies including communication, social interaction, and independent living skills Foster positive learning experiences that encourage personal growth and self-determination

Documentation & Compliance



Document behavioral observations and intervention outcomes using systematic data collection procedures Complete daily session notes, incident reports, and progress summaries in accordance with agency policy and compliance requirements Review and thoroughly monitor session notes capturing client responses, progress within the ISP goals, and notable incidents with relevant updates Track measurable outcomes and share data with the supervising clinician and client care team for ongoing plan modification Develop comprehensive progress summaries highlighting accomplishments, areas for growth, and behavioral patterns Monitor intervention effectiveness through data analysis and communicate results to Senior Operations Manager and leadership team Adhere to all privacy, confidentiality, and documentation regulations in compliance with Alberta Health Services (AHS), Alberta Council of Disability Services (ACDS), CAC, and other applicable standards

Therapeutic Relationship & Client Support



Build therapeutic alliances grounded in dignity, trust, and professional ethics Ensure individualized service plans respect personal choices and cultural values Deliver empathetic assistance during challenging moments and behavioral crises Represent client interests while upholding appropriate professional limits Apply trauma-sensitive and culturally safe approaches throughout all client interactions

Crisis Prevention & Safety Management



Recognize potential triggers and escalation patterns before crisis situations develop Implement approved de-escalation strategies including Non-Crisis Intervention Skills (NCIS) and Advanced Physical Skills (APS) protocols as needed Cultivate secure, therapeutic spaces particularly during periods of elevated stress Assess environmental conditions and apply preventive interventions to minimize behavioral incidents Handle urgent situations professionally while protecting individual dignity and safety

Team Collaboration & Communication



Contribute meaningfully to interdisciplinary treatment planning discussions Coordinate with guardians, support networks, and community partners to maintain consistent care Communicate factual observations about behavioral patterns and treatment response to the clinical team Facilitate peer learning and contribute to team knowledge development

Professional Development & Quality Improvement



Participate actively in supervisory meetings and incorporate performance feedback Complete required professional development in trauma-responsive care and behavioral interventions Stay informed about industry developments and emerging best practices Contribute to organizational improvement efforts and program enhancement Uphold high standards of professional conduct and ethical practice

Qualifications and Skills



Education:



Minimum: Post-secondary diploma in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or related field


Preferred: Bachelor's degree in related discipline

Certification & Credentials



Certification or training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) First Aid and CPR certification Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or equivalent is an asset Valid vulnerable sector check

Experience and Skills



Knowledge of adherence to Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD), ACDS policies and accreditation compliance standards Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder Knowledge of evidence-based trauma-informed approach and culturally safe practices Proficiency in behavioral data collection, preparing BSPs and ISPs and analysis methods Strong verbal and written communication abilities Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams
